At UTMB, the Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine’s mission is to advance health care and quality of life for older adults and those with serious illnesses.
We promote geriatric medical care through excellence in patient care in our clinics and the Jennie Sealy Hospital ACE Unit;
innovative instruction from geriatricians and other faculty within the Department of Internal Medicine; and a strong partnership with the Sealy Center on Aging, whose faculty and fellows conduct aging-related research.
The division faculty, fellows and nurse practitioners provide patient care across a wide range of services on and off the Galveston Island, including the Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) Unit, and Geriatric Clinics and nursing homes in Galveston and League City.
The division also manages a growing House Call program, providing care to patients in their homes, assisted living facilities, and memory care units.
The Palliative Medicine team helps patients with serious illnesses and their families via symptom management to relieve sufferings and improve quality of care for patients and families.
Physician faculty members are expected to develop, grow, and market a robust geriatrics practice. The Mainland geriatrics expansion complements the rapid growth and increasing presence of UTMB clinical operations at all UTMB campuses and the surrounding service areas.
