Position Information Job Title Resident Assistant (Student) Position Type Student Division Student Affairs Department Housing & Residential Programs Job Description Resident Assistants (RA) help facilitate a sense of community in the residence halls and to enhance the social, educational, spiritual, intellectual, physical, and environmental development of each resident.
RAs articulate for students the philosophy and policies of Housing & Residential Programs and the university. They represent Housing & Residential Programs and act as role models for students.
Expected to know all policies and procedures relevant to the University and residence halls, as well as a basic rationale for their existence.
RAs are expected to abide by and address and / or report violations of department, university, state, and federal policies and laws promptly according to established reporting and response procedures.
Manage assigned floor community, serving as a resource, person of support, and mentor to residents. Be open and available to residents and plan programs, events, and activities to keep students engaged;
developing a positive, supportive community environment.
- Participate in on-call rotations and work cooperatively with University Police, Health Clinic, Counseling Center and other campus and community resources to provide assistance during emergency or crisis situations.
- Assist in managing hall operations and representing the department and university by acting and communicating professionally, clearly, and openly;
disseminating information accurately and timely.
Required Qualifications
- Full time student, available entire academic year
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Minimum of two semesters living on campus or comparable group living experience preferred. Need not be a current resident.
- Be free of disciplinary probation
