Description
The primary responsibility is to supervise the pool and deck of the High School and Wealthy Pool, prevent accidents and minimize / eliminate hazardous situations in pool areas.
Responding quickly to all emergency situations using proper procedures / techniques and following the East Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department rules and regulations.
Starting pay for lifeguards is $15.00 per hour with early morning shifts paying $16.50 per hour. The City of East Grand Rapids provides certification opportunities for candidates who do not have a current lifeguarding certification.
Essential Job Functions
- Supervise the pool and deck of the High School and Wealthy Pool.
- Prevent accidents and minimize / eliminate hazardous situations in pool areas.
- Respond quickly to all emergency situations using proper procedures / techniques.
- Directly responsible to the Aquatic Supervisor
- Meet and greet all pool patrons.
- Check for valid pool memberships as patrons enter the facility.
- Collect money for pool admissions, make sure memberships and punch cards are being processed on the laptop.
- Enforce all pool regulations set by the EGR Parks and Recreation Department.
- Administer emergency First Aid and / or CPR to any person injured in the pool area and complete reports.
- Work all scheduled shifts or secure own substitute
- Attend all staff meetings, in-services and workshops.
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.
- Maintain positive relations and rapport with pool patrons.
- Perform daily inspections on the High School and Wealthy Pools.
- Complete all necessary paperwork.
- Light cleaning.
- Any other duties assigned by the Aquatics Supervisor or Aquatics Assistant.
- Supervise the hallway and locker rooms of High School and Wealthy Pools.
- Supervise multi-purpose room at Wealthy Pool and balcony at High School Pools and watch for anyone trying to enter school through balcony.
They are not allowed to enter school through pool area.
- Setup and tear down multi-purpose room at Wealthy Pool as scheduled.
- Snow removal around entryways during winter months.
Supplemental information
- Must be currently certified in ARC Lifeguarding, First Aid and Professional Rescuer CPR, AED & Blood borne Pathogen or able to pass a Red Cross lifeguard training course that is provided by the City of East Grand Rapids.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
- Ability to perform well in emergency situations.
- Preferred a minimum of 1-year experience as a lifeguard.
- Be a capable swimmer and competent in lifesaving methods
- Be in good physical condition
