The primary purpose of this role is to serve as a high risk claims analyst for the Legal department, handling litigated cases and sensitive brand issues.
The role will also serve as an escalation point for the Claims Management department to transfer cases that, through development, meet specific triggers, also to consult on case value and jurisdictional nuisances.
This role will also review cases being handled in the Claims Management department for early resolution opportunities through pre-suit mediation.
This role will be responsible to bring such escalated claims to appropriate resolution and will provide subject matter expertise on property damage and / or personal injury claims.
This role must have a functional knowledge of the relevant laws, legal principles, and the litigation process to resolve claim, as well as a deep understanding of store operations and brand consciousness.
This role will collaborate directly with Store Operations, Human Resources, Loss Prevention, Safety and external vendors to resolve claims while maintaining adequate production and while fulfilling reasonable customer service expectations.
This role will also be required to investigate, evaluate and resolve complex property damage, personal injury claims, small claims and other minor litigated cases filed against Lowe’s and / or its subsidiaries in a manner consistent with the Company's objectives and values.
This is accomplished by gathering appropriate information, evaluating alleged damages, determining liability and compensability, negotiating settlements and reporting obtained information in a timely and efficient manner.
What you will do
Conducts investigations of litigated and brand impact claims by interviewing associates, store leadership, claimants and witnesses, etc.
obtaining official reports, and by comparing claim information with evidence
- Escalates matters and recommends litigation when appropriate
- Establishes reserves appropriately by using independent judgment and expertise and authorizes payments within scope of authority
- Notifies insurance carriers and third-parties of claims as appropriate
- Settles claims within his / her authority and in an appropriate manner consistent with Company’s objectives and values by determining liability, by obtaining demands and making offers to claimants and / or their legal representatives, requesting settlement checks, making filings with regulatory agencies, and disposing of salvage, pursuing subrogation when appropriate
- Serves as an escalation point for the Risk Management claims department and / or store for issues which cannot be satisfactorily resolved by the Claims Examiner or Sr. Claims Examiner
- Serves in a supervisory capacity to other examiners on claims resolution
- Develops and delivers training to be used for new claims examiners as well as continuing claims examiner training including but not limited to : best practices, lessons learned trainings, and new process / technology for current claims examiners
- Develops and delivers training to business units on claims processing process and is the subject matter expert
- Serves as a subject matter expert to the business on processing claims, recommends process changes, manage implement of process changes, and develop needed training
- Controls claim costs

- Assist Claims Manager with hiring, training, and development of talent necessary to achieve stated objectives
- Provides open feedback and mentorship to team members to encourage growth and greater responsibility.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Legal Studies or related
- 6 Years Experience in risk and claims management and litigation
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with a large Fortune 50 company and retail environment experience working with a third-party administrator
