This is a Safety Sensitive Position.

About this Position

The Facility Maintenance Tech I or Tech II HVAC will execute manual skilled tasks for facility maintenance construction and equipment / machinery repair.

The Facility Maintenance Tech II HVAC will execute some tasks similar to a Tech I, but will primarily maintain and repair HVAC equipment in city buildings.

They may also assist with plumbing and electrical equipment maintenance or repair.

Additional tasks for both positions may include delivering custodial supplies or mail, performing inspections on city owned equipment, executing custodial tasks, and assisting other technicians as needed.

The Tech I position operates via a rotating, on-call schedule. They will be required to work standby and call-back hours, and occasionally will work weekends and holidays.

Because these positions are labelled safety / security sensitive, any new hire is subject to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, and random drug & alcohol screening.

Responsibilities

Tech I)

Repair and maintain lighting fixtures

Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems by changing filters, checking belts, washing out coils, and maintaining exhaust fans

Repair minor plumbing issues

Assist with estimating materials and labor

Collaborate with vendor / contractors on vendor repairs and Life Safety inspections (elevators, fire extinguishers, etc.)

Assist with procurement and warehousing of inventory and supplies

Inspect generators and various life safety devices (such as fire extinguishers, AEDs, and elevators)

Deliver mail to Cross Timber Complex

Prepare required paperwork

  • Attend and complete job-related skills training
  • Operate as the acting Safety Coordinator for the Facility Maintenance Department upon request
  • Assist with other tasks as necessary (including doors, keys, security, construction, and remodeling)

Tech II) All the responsibilities of a Tech I, plus :

  • Install, maintain, service, and repair the ventilation system and HVAC equipment in all City buildings
  • Diagnose causes of HVAC malfunctions or failures
  • Perform Quality Control testing and / or system repair for HVAC systems
  • Operate the City’s HVAC controls system
  • Maintain and repair refrigeration equipment
  • Obtain Refrigerant Recovery & Recycling Equipment certification (unless already obtained)

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Experience researching, compiling, and summarizing statistical data
  • Knowledge of the materials, tools, and equipment utilized in this position
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions
  • Residence within a 30-minute boundary of Cross Timbers Facility (to decrease response time for emergencies)
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier

Tech I)

12 18 months of related experience and / or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Tech II HVAC)

  • 3 years of related experience and / or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Oklahoma Mechanical Journeyman License
  • Experience effectively utilizing International Mechanical Code for the State of Oklahoma and City of Edmond
  • Experience using hand and power tools
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (preferred)

  • Ability to multitask effectively to work on several projects simultaneously
  • Willingness and ability to work in disagreeable weather conditions (we do not work in hazardous weather conditions)
  • Willingness to perform call-back and stand-by duties

Tech II) All the skills for a Tech I, plus :

  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference materials
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment safely : multimeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, testing equipment, soldering iron, wire puller, pipe bender and threader, hand and power tools;

trencher, jackhammer, concrete saw, and ladder

Willingness to attend on the job training, conferences, and seminars
