The Nightingale-Bamford School is seeking to hire a lead maintenance mechanic. Under the general supervision of the Director of Building Operations and Capital Management, the lead maintenance mechanic will perform general and preventative maintenance services and related repairs to the school building, machinery, and equipment.
The actual work hours will be 2 : 00 PM 10 : 00 PM, but must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed. This is a non-exempt, salaried position.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to) : Perform assigned general maintenance duties required to maintain and repair school building, machinery, and equipment, involving some skill in carpentry, plumbing, painting, and the electrical or mechanical trades Assure that jobs specified on maintenance requests and work orders are completed satisfactorily Perform daily inspection of building and mechanical equipment Operate, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC equipment, small to large tonnage, and all auxiliary equipment Knowledge of heating systems involving low-pressure boilers, utility, PRVs, heat exchangers, distribution and return systems Knowledge of Chillers, pumps, refrigeration systems, BMS, 2-pipe and 4-pipe systems Maintain tools and equipment required for maintenance tasks and inventory of equipment and supplies Make emergency repairs within the area of knowledge and responsibility Maintain required records of hours / materials expended for each job Provide weekly reports on the status of the building equipment with recommendations on scheduled services as per the O&M manuals.
Inspect machinery in operation to ensure proper functioning, including checking pressures and temperatures as required Attend special training classes and sessions to increase skills in various crafts Setup event spaces as needed and perform space / area setup and breakdown as required daily Perform cleaning / janitorial work as needed Garbage and snow removal when necessary Perform other related duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS : 3-5 years of experience in the supervision of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems and team supervision NYC Fire Safety Director license required (must obtain within six months of hire) Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and interpret drawings and blueprints Mechanical solid knowledge of all building systems, infrastructure, HVAC and construction Knowledge and ability to operate tools of the trade Knowledge of Preventive Maintenance Programs and vendor management Willingness to learn new skills and methods Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary Valid motor vehicle operator's license if required Ability and willingness to work with all members of the professional community Flexible, self-motivated, detail-oriented problem-solver able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously in a high-pressure atmosphere;
excellent communication skills are necessary. Ability to read, write, and speak the English language sufficiently to understand and process all required paperwork and to communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and visitors if necessary Must have working knowledge of reporting tools and be proficient in Google Docs, sheets, slides, email, Calendar, and Microsoft Office.
