Overview
The Gulf Beach Senior Lifeguard oversees all beach rescue operations on the gulf beaches and dispatch emergency calls from drowning to trauma with injuries.
Responsibilities
- Respond to any medical emergency on the gulf beaches to include swimmers in distress, drowning, recovery, major medical calls, major trauma, and minor injuries
- Assist the Program Manager with interviewing, hiring, orientating, training, scheduling, disciplining, and other supervisory duties that pertain to seasonal employees
- Stay current with all required training and development.
- Assist with special events by providing water safety, first aid, traffic control and supplies
- Ensure that all beach rescue equipment stays in top working condition and cleaned
- Will be required to operate jet skis and trucks with lights and sirens
- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Requires a High School Diploma / GED
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience
- A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
- Must be able to swim 500 meters (550 yards) over a measured course in ten minutes or less
- Must be able to successfully perform an open water rescue
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications must be obtained within six (6) weeks from date of hire from our agency
- Must be able to pass a test of strength and stamina to perform the rigorous physical duties of an open water lifeguard

Basis of Rating
Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

- Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.
- Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and / or license / certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
