SUMMARY :
The HR Manager will provide a range of high-quality HR services and programs that support organizational goals across several Hachette Book Group (HBG) locations, partnering with business units.
HBG is a leading book publisher based in New York and a division of Hachette Livre, the third-largest publisher in the world.
The successful candidate brings a business owner's mentality to their work and is prepared to harness and further develop the power of HBG’s HR team, collaborating with key stakeholders across divisions.
As a trusted advisor, this role requires a seasoned HR professional who can effectively collaborate with senior leadership and drive HR initiatives that align with business goals.
Location : The role is NYC based. HBG's current hybrid working model is two days in the office per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Establish collaborative business relationships with leaders of specific functional areas and provide strategic advice and hands-on support related to people matters.
- Coach managers regarding employee relations issues, helping them understand and apply the company's policies and procedures, legal concepts and requirements in a fair, consistent and equitable manner;
write documentation as needed.
Guide and assist managers in their team members' performance, development, succession planning, retention, engagement, and progression.
Coach managers on providing effective feedback and fostering a high-performance culture.
- Proactively engage with employees to anticipate situations and propose solutions to overcome challenges or barriers and support business growth.
- Oversee, develop, and implement training programs based on company / employee needs.
- Manage the recruitment life cycle for positions across multiple locations, assisting hiring managers in identifying a diverse candidate pool, and establishing strong and trusting partnerships with departments by understanding business needs.
- Conduct exit interviews and new hire three month check ins; compiling, analyzing, and acting upon findings as needed.
- Ensure proper onboarding and off-boarding of employees, following company protocols.
- Assist in planning and implementing employee wellness and volunteer programs and other Human Resources projects as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED :
- 7+ years of progressive HR experience in a dynamic, fast-paced, professional environment
- Strong HR Generalist background and prior experience with life cycle recruitment, managing employee relations issues, and implementing training and development initiatives.
- Superior communication skills with demonstrated aptitude to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to think strategically and develop creative solutions to complex HR challenges.
- Must be self-directed and pro-active to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed.
- High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Proven track record of leading HR initiatives that drive business results.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively while also ensuring accuracy of work through attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and HRIS, ATS, and other database systems.

The compensation range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location talk with your recruiter to learn more.
There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
