No Job Type Full-Time Working Hours Position Summary The Assistant Director of Research and Sponsored Programs is responsible for managing post-award activities, as well as some pre-award activities, within the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Services, supporting grants and contracts for Roosevelt University.

The Assistant Director will work within the framework of grant management rules and regulations outlined by the Federal rules and regulations governing research grants and contracts as well as the policies and procedures of Roosevelt University.

The Assistant Director will also assist with contract negotiation and the development of sponsored research policy.

This position will report directly to the Director of Research and Sponsored Programs within the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Services.

Subject to the director’s approval and contingent upon the Provost team needs of the department, the position is hybrid preferred (one day on campus per week).

Roosevelt submits approximately 20-30 grant applications per year (of various types) and manages approximately $10 million in awarded funding.

edu . Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Experience in pre- and post-award activity; familiarity with issues of research compliance; knowledge of federal agency practices, regulations and policies;

and evidence of leadership success in comparable situations.

Ability to work effectively, collaboratively, and diplomatically with faculty and offices of senior level administration : grants accounting;

procurement and other university administrators.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the willingness to reach out to various sponsors.
  • Understanding of federal regulations and agency guidelines for grants management and sponsored research, including for example NSF, DOE, NIH, NEA and NEH.
  • Ability to work with program officers at Federal, State, County, City agencies as well as private foundations and corporations, and act as effective liaison between university and funding agencies.
  • Proficient with post award software tools including Ellucian Banner, Microsoft Excel and Word, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Evidence of ability to manage budgets effectively.
  • Understanding of basic IRB functions and regulations.
  • Capability of producing creative and innovative solutions and approaches to common problems.
  • Highly developed written and verbal skills required.

Working Conditions Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently.

Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and / or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure).

Regular use of desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand / wrist movement and repetition. Moderate level of stress.

Occasional travel within the local or regional setting may be required. Priority Application Instructions Departmental Contact Information Essential Job Functions Duty and Responsibility

  • Define account establishment boundaries after award is accepted, including billing and reporting requirements, budget, and cost sharing obligations.
  • Review and reconcile award expenditures and budgets, adjusting as necessary. Project and forecast future award expenditures.
  • Communicate with Principal Investigators (PI) on a regular basis regarding budget and expense adjustments and revisions;

Advise PIs on budget management, reporting and compliance timelines throughout the lifecycle of the grant or contract.

  • Assist PIs on completing financial reports to be sent to sponsor, as required by the award terms and conditions.
  • Monitor compliance with agency and university regulations regarding reporting.
  • Coordinate and submit requests for No Cost Extensions, Carryover, rebudgeting requests, changes in scope, and other changes to the award;

ensure all requests are compliant with sponsor guidelines and University policies.

  • Facilitate the approval of invoices to pay subcontractors.
  • Review effort reports and manage effort certification process. Apply federal and university rules to management of effort allocation appropriately for individuals compensated in whole or in part from federal awards.
  • Confer with PI and pre-award support staff at collaborating institutions to secure necessary sub-award documents for proposals.
  • Assist in transferring awards out of the university, closing out sponsored projects consistent with university process and timelines.
