JOB PURPOSE : The Speech Language Pathologist will evaluate the student's speech production and language needs through a variety of assessments to help disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice and fluency.

The Speech Language Pathologist will keep records of the initial evaluation, introduce various strategies to facilitate functional communication, develop an individualized plan of care tailored to each student's needs, assist student to develop reliable communication skills to fulfill student's educational role and track student's progress.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work in collaboration with ESE teacher and ESE District Liaison as part of the process for making assessment of the student's disorders.
  • Participate in speech / language hearing screenings as requested.
  • Follow the school procedure for keeping and safeguarding documentation and records of the initial evaluation.
  • Assess students and prepare an evaluation report, as necessary.
  • Maintain progress reports in order to help pinpoint problems, track student progress and meet district accountability standards.
  • Collaborate with the student's teachers, special educators, other school personnel, and parents to develop and implement an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) according to students' needs and areas of remediation.
  • Schedule IEP meetings with student's teachers and parents to stay in compliance with Federal Guidelines.
  • Participate in staff development activities designed to enhance professional growth.
  • Work as an active resource on the Response to Intervention Team to help educate teachers with the appropriate language intervention strategies.
  • Communicate and / or work with student's family members to recognize and change behavior patterns that impede communication and treatment;

share with them communication-enhancing techniques to use at home.

  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.

  • Computer Basics Windows (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); Student Information System (SIS).
  • Good knowledge of company and school policies and procedures.
  • Detailed knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements for K-12 schools and charter school law preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Not physically demanding, but requires attention to detail and intense concentration.
  • The emotional needs of students and their families may be demanding.
  • Light work : Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with CSUSA salary and benefit policy. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by Charter Schools USA.

FLSA OVERTIME CATEGORY

Job is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Charter Schools USA Policy.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

  • Master's Degree accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Active Speech-Language Pathology license issued by the Florida Department of Health.
  • Proficiency in word processing, filing and preparing accurate student reports.
  • Bilingual ability may be required per advertised vacancy specifications.
  • Aptitude to learn new programs and to operate efficiently in a computerized environment.
  • Commitment to school and company values.
