Job Summary : The Buyer I supports the formal competitive bid process, development of contracts, service agreements, leases and other written legal agreements under general supervision.
Procures items or services in an assigned commodity area at the best total value. Obtains quotations and enters into negotiations with suppliers as necessary.
Ensures compliance with University policies, guidelines, and the State of Alabama Bid Law.
Additional Department Summary : This position may be eligible for remote-hybrid work.
Required Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor's degree or higher and some experience in procurement, purchasing, and / or buying.
Skills and Knowledge : Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of contract law, basic accounting skills and the ability to organize work and time in an efficient manner.
Proficient computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to initiate and support continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications : Degree in business or procurement-related field.
