ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Ensures staff and students adheres to the facility and daily schedule, ensures that the facility (unit, cottage, house, room, dorm, etc.

is on time for all elements and the students participate in all of the scheduled activities.

  • Completes daily assignments as specified by the Shift Supervisor other designated supervisor or higher authority.
  • Promotes a sense of community by teaching and modeling cooperation, respect, and responsibility in the group living environment;

encouraging student-to-student, student-to-staff and staff-to-student interaction with one another and creating opportunities for them to do so.

  • Observes behavior patterns of students in order to detect signs of depression, anger, and / or other emotional and situational problems / issues and initiates proper program behavior management and intervention techniques personally and / or through subordinate staff.
  • Encourages and supports the students’ academic, vocation, athletic and treatment participation.
  • Facilitates problem solving through active listening, guidance, and conflict mediation with staff and students.
  • May directs and evaluates the work of Coach Counselors and others as assigned. May establish implement and monitor unit and staff programs;

Explains policies, procedures and standards to students and staff.

  • May plan, assign and review the work of Coach Counselors and others as required and recommends changes in practices and procedures to increase operating efficiency.
  • Provides work instruction and assists employees with difficult and / or unusual assignments and situations.
  • Trains Coach Counselors on coaching techniques, group interactions, and program requirements, including subduing and / or restraining techniques in order to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Participates in the identification of staff development and training needs and requirements.

Resolves problems and mediates conflicts encountered during operations, determines appropriate solutions and promotes teamwork.

Encourages open communication and informs staff of relevant business issues and their impact on the site and Company.

  • Participates and documents performance, provides feedback, evaluates the work of employees and provides reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance.
  • Documents causes for disciplinary action, recommends / initiates disciplinary action. Responds to formal and informal grievance and prepares written responses in compliance with company policies, procedures and practices.
  • Personally provides and ensures consistent interactive supervision of the students (know where they are and what they are doing at all times) is provided by the coaching staff and provides operational guidance and direction in usual, unusual and non-standard situations in various program elements such as : Living environment, Positive Skill Development Groups, School environment, Community service, Sporting programs, Extra-curricular activities, Student work programs, Student internships.
  • Maintains thorough and accurate records, files, correspondence and statistics; completes necessary documentation (both hand-written and computer-based data entry) in a timely, accurate, complete and legible manner.

May include, but not limited to : notations in the shelter log, bed roster, incident reports, late arrivals, sign-in sheets, showers and laundry schedules, and any other forms used or as directed by the supervisor and site requirements.

Ensures coaching staff complete required records, reports and documentation. Assists coaching staff with the completion of records, reports and documentation.

  • Resolves problems and mediates conflicts involving students and / or staff encountered during daily operations, determines appropriate solutions and / or seeks out assistance from supervisor or higher authority.
  • Communicates and applies policies, licensing requirements, program elements to students and coaching staff. Addresses problem areas, disciplinary action, behavior problems, safety violations etc.

  • Observes and appropriately responds personally and through subordinates to incidents such as assaults on staff and / or students, run-away attempts, program disturbances or other situations threatening the safety, health and / or welfare of the facility, community and daily operations.
  • Performs and ensures staff performs proper safe physical management techniques when situations require and reporting procedures and documentation are completed.
  • Provides conflict de-escalation and mediation involving students, as needed.
  • Ensures facility (unit, cottage, house, room, etc.) maintenance, safety and cleanliness meet health, and safety codes.
  • Manages and monitors facility (unit, cottage, etc.) supplies and needs.
  • Ensures compliance with standards and security safeguards such as room checks; suicide watch protocols, Prison Rape Elimination Act Policies and Procedures, removal of dangerous items and student count responsibilities.
  • Acts as a positive role model : guiding students and facilitating appropriate behavior about daily living skills, self-care, personal interaction, social relationships and constructive time management.
  • Personally ensures staff maintains appropriate professional boundaries with students and staff; responds to students and staff in a professional and courteous manner;

observes and adheres to confidentiality standards.

  • Follows all policies and procedures regarding attendance, including punctuality and notification.
  • Maintains and promotes the cooperative, harmonious, teamwork environment ROP strives to promote within the workplace; maintains and promotes an atmosphere of dignity and respect in line with the philosophy and policies of Rite of Passage.
  • Provides feedback to the Unit Manager, other designated supervisor or higher authority regarding the coaching staff performance, disciplinary infractions, attendance, training requirements etc.

  • Encouraged to participate in at least 50% of the daily physical activities required of the students.
  • Ensures the highest standards are maintained to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct and to ensure the program remains in compliance with agency licensing and Rite of Passage policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the correction of deficiencies and quality improvement efforts.
  • Attends and participates in all required meetings.
  • Commits to attending all training and staff development classes for this position and supervised staff in order to ensure sufficient hours of training on an annual basis.

Notifies supervisor if annual training hours are deficient.

Other duties as assigned, verbally or in written form.

NOTE : An employee assigned to this title shall perform a majority, but may not perform all of the duties listed in this position description on a daily basis but each duty as a minimum is considered essential duties.

Conversely, minor level duties performed on the job may not be listed.
