Job Summary : The Certified Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support in a dermatology clinic, assisting with patient care, performing clinical procedures, and managing office tasks to ensure efficient clinic operations.
Key Responsibilities :
Clinical Support :
- Prepare patients for dermatological examinations and procedures.
- Obtain and document patient medical histories, vital signs, and chief complaints.
- Assist dermatologists with clinical procedures such as biopsies, cryotherapy, and other dermatological treatments.
- Perform and assist with minor surgical procedures, including wound care and dressing changes.
- Educate patients on skin care, medication use, and post-procedure instructions.
- Administer medications and injections as directed by the physician.
- Maintain and sterilize medical instruments and equipment.
Administrative Duties :
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments, and manage patient flow within the clinic.
- Handle patient check-in and check-out processes, including collecting co-pays and verifying insurance information.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Process and manage prescription refills and communicate with pharmacies as needed.
- Coordinate with other healthcare providers and specialists for referrals and follow-ups.
Patient Interaction :
- Provide compassionate and professional care to patients, addressing their concerns and ensuring a positive experience.
- Answer patient questions and provide information about dermatological conditions, treatments, and procedures.
- Assist with patient education materials and support resources.
Clinic Operations :
- Ensure that exam rooms and equipment are stocked, clean, and prepared for patient visits.
- Assist with inventory management, including ordering and restocking medical supplies.
- Comply with clinic policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Handle administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and managing correspondence.
Compliance and Confidentiality :
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Follow infection control and safety protocols to ensure a safe clinic environment.
- Keep current with continuing education and certification requirements.
Qualifications :
- Education : High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
- Certification : Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or equivalent.
- Experience : Previous experience in a dermatology or medical office setting preferred.
- Skills :
- Proficiency in medical terminology and clinical procedures.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and office software.
Physical Requirements :
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the clinic for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and move medical supplies and equipment.
- Ability to assist patients with mobility challenges.
Work Environment :
- Primarily works in a clinical setting with direct patient contact.
- May involve interaction with patients, families, and medical staff.
