Senior Atmospheric Scientist

CFD Research Corporation is seeking a Senior Research Scientist with a background in Atmospheric Science, Physics, or related disciplines to join our Atmospheric Sciences and Weather Effects Team to provide technical contributions on research and development efforts.

Applicants will work with a cross-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and software developers focusing on integrating multiple software tools to capture how weather effects aerospace applications.

They will contribute to research, development, implementation, and testing of algorithms for near-term weather forecasting, atmospheric characterization, and data processing and visualization.

Basic Qualifications :

• Candidate must be a US Citizen and meet eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a clearance
• Advanced Degree (Master's or PhD) in Atmospheric Science, Computer Science, Physics, or related discipline (equivalent experience may substitute for graduate degree)
• 5 years experience
• Experience with Radar and / or Satellite Meteorology
• Experience in a scientific computing and programming language such as Python, R, C / C++, Java
• Experience reading and processing atmospheric / hydrologic datasets in NetCDF, GRIB, and JSON formats
• Understanding of a variety of atmospheric data sources
• Proficient with the Linux operating system

Desired Qualifications :

• Use of programming version control such as Git
• Experience working with Defense applications from either civilian or military background
• Familiarity with artificial intelligence / machine learning
• Understanding of numerical weather prediction processes
• Experience with Cloud Physics, Atmospheric Particle Identification
