Advanced Technology Practice

Our Advanced Technology Practice is strategically positioned to support, expand, and diversify federal agency research and development (R&D) support to engineering and technology clients.

Clients in this practice area are typically for-profit technology companies, ranging in size from single person startups to Fortune 500 companies.

A significant component of this practice involves working across a broad scope of engineering and technology areas including industries of the future such as Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Manufacturing, Clean Energy, and Biotechnology.

The focus of this role is to support business development efforts for the entire practice.

The Senior Research Analyst (Senior RA) will support all aspects of business development, from researching prospective clients to contract negotiation.

This includes supporting the business development team and process, identifying and screening prospective clients, tracking and documenting the business development process from pitch to close, and other tasks as needed.

The primary focus of this role will be supporting business development, focusing on companies that are candidates for opportunities that have been created as a result of historic government investment in the private sector.

For example, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has allocated billions of dollars to clean energy technology proposals in the DOE, while the CHIPS and Science Act has allocated billions of dollars to semiconductor technology proposals in the DOC.

Our clients in this space are typically pursuing funding to expand their manufacturing and supply chains.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The Senior RA will support business development within the Advanced Technology Core team. The Senior RA will provide support to the business development team, led by the Core team lead and Practice leader.

The Senior RA will target prospective clients in a broad scope of technology areas including industries of the future such as Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Manufacturing, Clean Energy, and Biotechnology.

The Senior RA will be expected to deliver high quality results with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment with fixed deadlines.

Specific responsibilities include :

  • Work directly with the Practice leaders to assist with research, development, and execution of business development strategies to secure new clients.
  • Provide administrative and project management support for the business development team, including maintaining organized and accurate records, participating in prospective client pitch meetings, coordinating scheduling and logistics for internal and external meetings, and assisting with document preparation and management.
  • Collaborate with and support working groups centered around technology and service focus areas.
  • Coordinate with the central Business Development team on prospective client screening and Salesforce updates.
  • Prepare prospective client lists and support preparation of tailored outbound marketing plans for these lists, including activities such as : email campaigns, conference attendance, and hosting webinars.
  • Draft and collaborate on email campaign outlines, marketing materials, and proposal templates.
  • Attend conferences with the business development team and assist in the creation and delivery of grantsmanship workshops, funding opportunity webinars, and other trainings.
  • Assist with business development by supporting responses to requests for proposals for firm services, preparing proposals for interested prospective clients, and supporting contract and statement of work preparation.
  • Maintain working knowledge (with the support of other RAs) of the most client-relevant federal grant programs across agencies such as DOE, DOC, NSF, DOD, NIH, and others.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Normal work hours are 8 : 30 am through 5 : 30 pm, Monday through Friday
  • Location : in-office (Washington, D.C.); in-office collaboration days are Tuesday through Thursday.

  • Salary consideration will be commensurate with experience, range for position is $58,000 - $62,000 annual base salary and bonus eligibility

Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a field related to government relations, business development, marketing, or sales.
  • One to three years of prior work experience. Special consideration will be given to professionals that have worked in a sales or business development position.

Experience with marketing consulting as a business-to-business service is ideal.

  • Strong communication skills via phone, email, and in person interactions, including superior writing and editing skills.
  • Detail and team-oriented individual who can add value with strong task management and prioritization skills.
  • Creative, service oriented, and adaptive professional mindset able to independently troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to synthesize and accurately analyze complex materials. Experience converting text-based information into useful infographics a plus.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and business development pipelines is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with focus on Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Able to remain in a stationary position during the workday (up to 80%), move about inside the office to access files, cabinets, office machinery, supplies, and carry items to various locations in the office.
  • This position is required on-site in our DC location a minimum of three (3) days per week.
