Position Summary :
The Payroll Specialist supports the company's payroll processes. This position ensures pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.
Position Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to :
- Manage the payroll processing of multiple weekly and bi-weekly payroll groups inclusive of Collective Bargaining Agreements Contracts
- Ensure the payroll is in full compliance with federal and state laws
- Ensure employee payroll is processed accurately and timely
- Review weekly payroll reports for accuracy
- Collaborate with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) as necessary to ensure complete compliance in setting up payroll in various systems
- Maintain payroll system updates and ensure accuracy
- Analyze payroll issues and recommend corrective actions
- Assist in payroll accounting, transactions, reporting, stop payments, and other operations
- Oversee salary changes, compensations, deductions, bonus, and vacation / Paid Time Off (PTO) payouts
- Process final checks for voluntary and involuntary separations from the company
- Provide training and mentoring to team members
- Facilitate training at the local level as needed
- Assist in payroll and timesheet audit process
- Assist employees with payroll issues
- Review payroll issues and discrepancies and process necessary corrections
- Ensure compliance with the regulatory standards, policies, and procedures of payroll
- Provide technical expertise and respond to payroll inquiries related to interpretation of laws, rules, and regulations as well as Collective Bargaining Agreement Contracts
- Implement processes to streamline payroll function
- Other projects or duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience :
- HS Diploma / GED with 0 to 1 plus years of payroll experience
- Experience with federal, local, and state payroll laws
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Detail-oriented mindset
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to maintain highly confidential information
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test
Preferred Skills and Experience :
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance and / or Accounting
- Experience with UKG or Kronos Timekeeping System
- Experience working in a union environment
