Plant Quality Supervisor – Growing Creamery in Petaluma

A growing food manufacturing and creamery company is seeking a Plant Quality Supervisor to provide technical expertise and manage daily quality control activities related to Operational Food Safety, Product Quality, GFSI compliance, and regulatory compliance.

Reporting to the Head of Quality, this role ensures adherence to regulatory requirements while driving continuous improvement in the company's quality systems and processes.

Responsibilities :

  • Act as the Deputy SQF Practitioner, managing the Quality department when the Head of Quality is unavailable.
  • Review and verify milk and product testing results; recommend changes and assist with testing when needed.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including milk quality, sanitation, and pasteurization.
  • Maintain licenses, handle renewals, and manage monthly compliance reports.
  • Oversee GMP practices, ensuring proper documentation and corrective actions (CAPA).
  • Conduct facility inspections to identify improvements and implement corrective measures.
  • Handle customer complaints related to product quality, and ensure corrective actions are in place.
  • Implement food safety programs like Environmental Monitoring and Hold and Release.
  • Supervise technicians, update quality documents, and respond to customer document requests.
  • Work with the Production Manager to provide training and maintain records.
  • Assist with new product trials, shipping logistics, and quality improvements.
  • Oversee sanitation programs and participate in safety drills and inspections.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Dairy Science, Nutrition, Biological Sciences, Chemistry or other related science majors and minimum 2 years of QC / QA supervisory experience, preferably in dairy manufacturing.
  • GFSI Practitioner Certification (preferably SQF) and PCQI training or experience.
  • Knowledge of PMO, CDFA, FSMA compliance, and general SOPs for food production and safety.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) is highly preferred; ability to read and write in both languages.
  • Strong communication, report-writing, and leadership skills, with experience supervising teams of 12+ in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work in hands-on environments, including wet conditions and standing for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and ERP / Quality Management software.
  • Detail-oriented, assertive, and able to take initiative while managing multiple tasks across production areas.
