Job Title - School Social Worker

Supervised by / Reports to : Principal, Intervention Supervisor

FLSA Status : Exempt

Job Goals :

To provide social work services to schools and students in order to resolve personal, emotional, and social problems and to enhance student learning and personal growth

Qualifications :

1. Master's degree in social work from an accredited university, preferred.

2. Possess and maintain standing as a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW).

3. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

4. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and / or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

5. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.

6. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, as well as community agencies.

7. Demonstrated knowledge of community-based resources and agencies.

8. Ability to develop, evaluate and implement social work programs.

9. Ability to demonstrate professionalism and high standards of performance.

10. Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.

11. Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce / submit required reports, correspondence, and / or financial information.

12. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.

13. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

14. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions :

1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.

2. Serves as a student advocate and as a liaison between the home, school, and community.

3. Provides intervention services for students and families with interpersonal and environmental difficulties.

4. Assists in the referral process of students and / or parents to appropriate community agencies and follow-up as necessary.

5. Provides consultation and collaborative services to teachers, principals, counselors, and other school personnel.

6. Makes home and community visits, as needed.

7. Helps identify and provide services to homeless students.

8. Prepares and maintains professional documentation, including assessment results and intervention logs.

9. Models and maintains high ethical standards.

10. Assists school personnel in assessing students' social and environmental needs.

11. Coordinates and develops specialized services for students, parents, and families.

12. Develops and implements plans to enhance students' school success.

13. Assists school personnel in understanding better how facts such as family, culture, socioeconomic status, and physical and mental health can affect students' performance.

14. Develops a rapport with students and acts as a mentor when appropriate through individual and small group contact.

15. Assists with crisis prevention and intervention as needed.

16. As a part of the education team, helps students to improve their attendance, cope with crisis situations, develop self-discipline, build self-esteem, enhance problem-solving and decision-making skills, take advantage of educational opportunities, and learn to resolve conflicts without violence.

17. As a result of working with students, schools, and communities, supports parents and families to actively participate in their child's education, use school and community resources more effectively, and identity and meet their child's emotional and social needs.

18. Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.

19. Provides counseling to individual students at assigned schools having emotional, social, behavioral, or attendance problems.

20. Serves as a member of assessment and support teams with the school.

27. Demonstrates appropriate organizational and time management skills.

28. Collects, receipts and submits school funds in accordance with school procedures and Board policy.

21. Actively supervises students during assigned duty before, during and / or after school as directed.

22. Supervises and / or assists with extracurricular and co-curricular activities and assigned.

23. Attends staff development programs, workshops, and conferences to improve professional performance and knowledge.

24. Serves on school and / or system committees, advisory boards, and / or task forces as needed.

25. Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.

26. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school / workplace matters.

27. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and / or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.

28. Engages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadership.

29. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.

30. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and / or complaints in a timely and positive manner.

31. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.

32. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.

33. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.

34. Serves on school system committees, tasks forces, and representative groups as required.

35. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.

36. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.

37. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by principal and / or supervisor(s).

Terms of Employment : Nine-month position in accordance with the Board's salary schedule.

Evaluation : Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Baldwin County Board of Education policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
