A communication professional with strategic vision for print, video, digital and web initiatives in public relations, the assistant leads the development of editorial projects across the institution while adhering to the College’s public relations style guide, branding, and voice.
The assistant can identify key aspectsof an event / story / topic and maintains the ability to leverage them for use in editorial, web, video or photo media.
The assistant serves as a liaison to members of the media with respect to distributingnews and photo releases and pitching story ideas with the intent of securing news coverage.
The assistant must have knowledge of press releases, web page management, social media, video production and photography.
Coverage of evening and / or weekend events may be required.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :
Writes and edits copy for myriad projects including news releases, advertisements, marketing collateral, brochures, newsletters, posters, flyers, scripts, speeches, webpages and E-blasts while adhering to the College’s public relations style guide, branding, and voice.
- Maintains media outreach database and liaises with reporters to secure positive coverage aligned with institutional messaging.
- Develops social media campaigns and outreach strategies while monitoring and maintaining the College’s official platforms in consultation with the assistant director of public relations or other designated management from the College’s Office of Public Relations.
- Utilizes a social media management platform (Hootsuite) to manage and schedule social media across the College’s official platforms.
- Creates print, digital and web marketing programs to support College enrollment initiatives.
- Provides creative direction and editorial support for the College’s web presence, assisting in the development of visual and editorial strategy.
- Photographs events and subjects for use in print, video, digital and web media.
- Prepares scripts for use in various forums including speaker remarks, introductions and television productions.
- Produces vignettes appropriate for use as advertisements and promotional collateral.
- Performs tasks or duties as assigned by the assistant director of public relations.
- Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned by the president or other designated management.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS :
Education : Bachelor's Degree in public relations, journalism, communication, marketing or related fields.
Experience : Minimum of two years of experience, preferably in a higher education setting, although not required.
Demonstrates an understanding of higher education, the community college mission and practices an open-door policy. Exhibits the ability to conceive, plan and execute public relations activities and initiatives.
Knowledge of advertising, creative writing and public affairs highly preferred.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
- Annual Salary ranges from $48,000-$52,000
- NJ Educators Health Plan with free Vision and Dental. NJ State Pension plan.
