Job Description
SENIOR PRE-AWARD FISCAL OFFICER , Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), to serve as a key member of the fiscal team of a large, interdisciplinary laboratory with annual activities exceeding $90M and numerous federal, foundation, and industrial sponsor proposal submissions per year.
- Will manage pre-award administration activities for over 135 principal investigators (PIs); serve as advisor and primary point of contact to PIs and project leaders on all pre-award matters, including proposal budgets and administrative content;
- assume managerial functional responsibility for all operational aspects of CSAIL’s highly complex, multi-faceted and varied pre-award program;
- provide leadership, training, guidance, and support on all pre-award activities assigned to team members; collaborate on developing solutions to complex non-standard issues and operational matters;
- ensure proposals meet sponsor guidance, facilitate interpretation of sponsor guidelines, and ensure budgets support post-award best practices;
forge partnerships with stakeholders across MIT to ensure coherent collaboration.

Job Requirements
- REQUIRED : bachelor's degree; at least five years’ financial management experience; financial / quantitative skills at a decision-making level;
- experience with federal contracts; financial administration experience in an academic research environment; experience with research proposal processing and pre-award administration;
- highly proficient Excel skills and familiarity with other MS Office programs; excellent organizational, supervisory, customer service, and communication skills;
- team-building focus; meticulous attention to detail; willingness to learn new business methods; record of assuming greater responsibility over time;
and ability to work independently and as a member of a productive and innovative team in a challenging, fast-paced environment.
PREFERRED : master’s degree in a related field; MIT financial experience; and knowledge of enterprise financial systems, grants management tools, Kuali Coeus, federal sponsor websites, and multidimensional databases.
