Reports to (Position Title) : Director of Decker Library
General purpose : The Access Services Manager oversees every function of the Access Services Department which facilitates user access to resources through the circulation of materials, borrowing policies, renewing books, requesting books, Course Reserves, Interlibrary Loan (ILL), shelving and shelf maintenance, document delivery, collection maintenance, and library spaces.
Summary of Essential Functions :
Enhances and updates the library’s Access Services Policies and Procedures with new developments in the field and in accordance with current library practices.
Manages the Access Services Department which facilitates user access to resources through the circulation of materials, borrowing policies, renewing books, requesting books, Course Reserves, Interlibrary Loan (ILL), shelving and shelf maintenance, document delivery, collection maintenance, and library spaces.
Ensures adequate staffing of the Service Desk during operational hours of the Decker Library.
Ensures that all library spaces and collections are well-maintained and informs appropriate individuals or departments of issues and potential problems.
Hires, trains, and supervises Access Services staff, including student employees.
Establishes, revises, and enforces Access Services and stacks maintenance policies and procedures in accordance to the mission of the Decker Library.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
Manages all functions of the Access Services Department.
Keeps abreast of new developments in Access Services, including circulation, resource sharing, reserves, collection maintenance, hours, and space usage.
Updates Access Services Policies and Procedures to be in alignment with contemporary philosophies, practices, and the library’s mission, vision, and values including circulation, resource sharing, reserves, collection maintenance, hours, and space usage.
Ensures Access Services and stacks maintenance policies and procedures are followed through by the effective training and supervision of Access Services staff including student employees (25-30 students).
Hires, trains, and supervises student workers for Access Services functions.
Coordinates Access Service Desk schedule.
Responsible for covering the desk when library or student staff are unavailable.
Ensures that all library spaces and collections are well-maintained and informs appropriate individuals or departments of issues and potential problems including filing and tracking building work order requests.
Communicates any changes in hours, services, policies, procedures, and spaces with staff, faculty, and students in coordination with the Director of Decker Library.
Responds to routine problems and inquiries from the MICA community and regarding Library policies and procedures.
Troubleshoots and resolves Access Services related problems and patron complaints.
Advises and updates Access Services staff on library policy, hour or student employee changes
Verifies and completes timecards in Workday for Access Services and student staff.
Verifies that daily overdue notice and hold notice reports are run properly.
Runs report for monthly bill notices. Searches, prices, and sends bills to patrons.
Collects usage statistics from the ILS.
Collaboratively issues and enforces access for faculty, staff, and students including issuing temporary loan access to a variety of constituencies.
Serves as liaison to Student Accounts department.
Coordinates billing with Student Accounts office. Works with Student Accounts office to resolve problems of billing for library related services.
Posts student transactions using PeopleSoft
Coordinates batch loading patron records with Student Accounts office.
Ensures material is placed on Reserve in timely fashion. Enforces Reserve policy and procedures.
Ensures that the physical processing and preservation of books occur in a timely fashion.
Supervises ILL policies and procedures. May assist with processing ILL requests as needed.
Creates, runs and deletes ILS reports daily, monthly and as needed.
Coordinates with the Director of Decker Library to make sure that ILS reports are running properly.
Consults with the Director of Decker Library on media collections policies and procedures.
Participates in on and off-campus meetings.
Participates in library outreach activities on and off campus.
Engages in professional development through professional library conferences, seminars, and network committees, reading professional literature, and attending and participating in staff workshops and meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of best practices for all access services functions including resource sharing and reserves.

Required Minimum qualifications :
Bachelor’s Degree.
3 years of library experience.
Exceptional organizational skills, problem-solving skills, attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to set and keep deadlines.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Management experience.
Preferred Qualifications :
Demonstrated experience with all access services functions including resource sharing, reserves, and circulation.
Background in art, art history, or design.
Demonstrated experience with promoting social justice, equity, and diversity.
Reporting to this position : Resource Sharing & Collection Maintenance Technician, Access Services Assistants, and Student Workers (up to 30).
