The Stem Cell Program at Boston Children's Hospital was launched in 2004 under the direction of Leonard Zon, MD and George Q.
Daley, MD, PhD. Stem cell research holds great promise for advances in science, medicine, and in the lives of children and adults living with serious diseases.
This program’s sole mission is to explore, understand, and translate the promise of stem cells into effective clinical therapies and treatments.

Under the direct supervision of the Research Administrative Manager, performs pre- and / or post-award functions. Coordinates required institutional reviews and approvals and / or monitors and administers federal and / or state, corporate, and private foundation-sponsored funds, subcontracts, and projects supported by discretionary and endowment funds.
May prepare effort reports and financial transactions, and other reports according to established policies and procedures for approval by Department / Division / Program or Research Manager.
May have signature authority on restricted funds.
The Research Administrator will be responsible for :
Assists in pre-award functions such as preparing grant applications to ensure conformity with relevant sponsor guidelines, regulations, and hospital policy.
Coordinates collection of grant application materials and receipt of institutional reviews and approvals to ensure timely submission.
Assist in budget preparation as needed.
- Approves financial transactions, such as employee travel and other reimbursements, and approves purchase requisitions in accordance with sponsor and hospital policy.
- Works with appropriate institutional central offices (Research Administration, Research Finance, Accounts Payable, etc.
to troubleshoot, prepare financial reports and resolve matters as needed.
Assists in the review of financial reports to monitor grant expenses to ensure compliance with sponsored award terms / conditions.
Assists in preparing effort in the eCRT system and financial reports for Principal Investigators. Assist PIs in monitoring spending rates through an internal excel shadow system as well as planning for future spending funding needs.
- Participates in timely grant / award renewal process and the orderly closeout of sponsored activities.
- Attends regular institutional training to keep skills current and knowledge up-to-date on sponsor regulations, Hospital policies, and emerging technologies.
In order to qualify, you must have :
- Bachelor's degree OR 3 years of research administration or financial experience.
- Analytical skills to resolve complex problems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and database applications.
