TITLE : SPECIAL EDUCATION / COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT / ECSE / ASD AIDE
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Minimum of High School Diploma
- Previous experience with students with cognitive impairment or autism spectrum disorder; previous experience with early childhood special education students
- Ability to walk hallways and quickly navigate a classroom and school bus
- Good gross and fine motor skills and the ability to follow instructions
- No physical limitations that would prevent the individual from being capable of performing emergency safety interventions and / or child restraints, when needed
- Ability to lift children in and out of car-seats and on and off toilets (weight range from 35 195 lbs.)
- Demonstrate an even temper, calm demeanor, and an abundance of patience
- Must have (or secure within the first school year) CPI certification
- Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of computers and specific assistive technology devices and software
- Enjoys working with students in providing personal and instructional assistance with a caring attitude
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students and staff
- Establish positive communication and relationships with parents
REPORTS TO : Director Special Education
SUPERVISES : NA
JOB GOAL : Works under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher to enhance the performance of CI, ASD, and ECSE students.
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Proactive prevention of behavior problems
- Assist with assistive technology devices and software
- Facilitate social relationships of students with peers
- Monitor behavior interventions and be familiar with (and implement) students behavior intervention plan
- Support students with academic skills
- Ability to be flexible and follow directions from the student’s team
- Assist with classroom academics and center activities
- Help teacher prepare materials for instruction, visual aids, decorating, organizing, etc.
- Assist with classroom enrichment activities such as book orders, parties, and resources for classroom
- Chaperone class trips, and school functions
- Assist with toileting, diapering, and hygiene needs as required
- Implement the District’s emergency use of seclusion and restraint if a student’s behavior poses an imminent risk to the safety of that student or others
- Assist children will dressing and undressing
- Maintain cleanliness and order in rooms including tables, sinks, and toys
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Must complete CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training within the first school year. The individual assigned to this position is a school year employee.
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
EVALUATION : Participate in & accept annual performance reviews.
