Job title : Technical Sign Language Interpreter Location : Benet Laboratories, Watervliet, NY Duties : The applicant shall provide technical interpreting services to one hearing-impaired employee.
The applicant should provide an accurate and efficient sign language interpretation between sign language users and hearing individuals in technical settings, such as conferences, workshops, training sessions, seminars, and meetings.
Demonstrate fluency and proficiency in sign language, including knowledge of specialized technical terminology and concepts in relevant fields such as science, technology, engineering, or other domains.
The applicant shall ensure effective communication by interpreting spoken language into sign language and vice versa, conveying information accurately while considering cultural nuances, tone, and intent.
The applicant should provide a demonstration of cultural sensitivity and understanding regarding diverse deaf communities, encompassing awareness of various sign language dialects and variations.
Qualifications : The applicant must be familiar with engineering terms. The applicant must be proficient in sign language, including fluency in a recognized sign language such as American Sign Language (ASL) or another country-specific sign language.
Strong communication skills, both in sign language and spoken language, to effectively convey information accurately and clearly.
Cultural competence and understanding of diverse deaf communities. Ability to work in high-pressure and fast-paced environments, managing multiple assignments and deadlines effectively.
Continuous commitment to professional development and staying updated with the latest developments in technology and sign language proficiency.
