OVERVIEW :

The Industry Skills Centralized Instructor II (Information Technology) will report to the Director of Central Program Delivery on the Central Program Team and will teach the basics of computer applications and computer network support from an existing but evolving curriculum.

Emphasis in the classroom will be on experiential learning and hand-on practices to ensure students achieve the key industry specific competencies required through in-depth role-plays, practice, and real-life application.

The Instructor will have expertise in the industry specific skills that will ensure a learner's readiness for work-based experiences at fortune 100 companies.

The foundation of Year Up's business model is high expectations and high support, which requires instructors to spend much of their time guiding students in professional behavior, helping them to build confidence, and advising them on choices that will help them reach their goals.

In additional to supporting local academic teams with general IT academic execution needs, the Industry Skills Centralized Instructor II is also expected to work in collaboration with the other departments to design, coordinate, and deliver nationwide bootcamps and instructional offerings within their academic discipline and may be asked to coach more junior instructors across the Year Up ecosystem.

You also have a depth of diverse knowledge of technology, and its application in the corporate workplace. You are someone who finds satisfaction in developing and delivering creative, interactive lessons, and serving as an advisor and coach to our young adults.

You are also interested in using your experience and expertise to drive the growth and development of the centralized instructional team.

The Industry Skills Centralized Instructor II (Information Technology) will also interact with students as a mentor, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in building a positive educational environment.

This role is location flexible and is open to candidates living in any of the states in which Year Up operates : https : / / www.

yearup.org / locations. Preference for candidates in PST.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Instruction

  • Instruct Information Technology courses across sites in various geographies, using curriculum that aligns to college-level courses, and includes computer application, hardware and networking
  • Design and deliver organization-wide Information Technology instructional support and bootcamps throughout the year according to site and partner needs
  • Hone assessment tools to measure learning and growth of Year Up students and to ensure successful transition of students to corporate internships;

make use of these tools to continuously monitor and evaluate Year Up's performance

  • Adapt and harmonize curriculum and use data to improve teacher and student performance in the classroom
  • Identify key competencies for instruction to meet both college-level course requirements and industry-workplace needs
  • Other duties as assigned

National Program Team Member

  • Work in partnership with Year Up's National and direct service teams to support Information Technology projects and provide high-quality support for students in their journey to achieve career readiness
  • Support local program teams with general Information Technology execution needs
  • Provide coaching to less experienced instructors when requested (e.g., observe and debrief on classroom observations, review lesson plans, provide suggestions to improve instructional practice)
  • Provide regular updates on the status of the projects and participants, highlighting achievements, addressing concerns, and managing milestones with Year Up National and direct service teams to ensure project success
  • Take on ad hoc support for team projects as necessary

Year Up Citizen

  • Live the values of Year Up and integrate them into one's work on a daily basis
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives that support the effectiveness, growth and impact of Year Up
  • Serve as student advisor / mentor, and potentially at times participate in Learning Community with local sites

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • 5 years of experience as an educator required and experience teaching or working with youth preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Computer Science preferred
  • Advanced industry certifications with significant relevant teaching experience required
  • Additional industry standard certifications : COMPTIA+, A+, MCSE, etc. strongly preferred
  • Skillful in creating and facilitating high-quality, rigorous, college-level classes and bootcamps
  • Skillful in using multiple assessments to measure the progress and performance of a diverse student population, and in teaching others to do the same
  • Experience with curriculum, syllabus development, and lesson planning
  • Interest and demonstrated ability in mentoring instructors
  • Proven ability to drive the collaborative efforts of instructors in same academic content area
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects and with multiple teams while virtually supporting student participants across multiple geography markets
  • Experience with eLearning, computer-enhanced teaching, and blended learning approaches preferred
  • Proficiency with various Learning Management Systems (i.e. Schoology, Moodle, Sakai), and virtual / online video tools for teaching and learning (i.

e. Second Life, Adobe Connect) preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Salary Range : $70,000 - $80,000

LI-Hybrid

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS :

Year Up has established salary ranges for each of our sites, which allows us to pay employees competitively, equitably and consistently in different geographic markets.

For roles in which the location is listed as flexible, the range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.

  • Vacation : Earn three weeks paid vacation in first year of employment; four weeks after initial year.
