Job Description and Duties

PARK INTERPRETIVE SPECIALIST (SEASONAL) SAN DIEGO COAST DISTRICT / OLD TOWN STATE HISTORIC PARK

Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKS program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKS recipient in the comments area on the application.

Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKS eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub.

If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKS program).

The reporting locations are Old Town State Historic Park and San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park. Under the direction of the Interpretation and Education Manager, the Park Interpretive Specialist researches and explains the history of early San Diego and its inhabitants, as well as other relevant history related work.

Interpretive programs are relayed in person, in writing, digital platforms, and through social media to various audiences including K-12 and the general public.

  • Requirements : Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English at a level required for successful job performance;
  • demonstrate the ability to follow directions; learn work procedures and park rules and regulations quickly; perform varied physical manual tasks (lift 30 pounds);

meet, interact and address the public effectively and successfully; willingness to work weekends and holidays; willingness to work odd or irregular hours as well as wear and maintain prescribed uniform and / or Period Attire while maintaining good hygiene habits and setting an example for other park staff, volunteers / interns.

Must be honest, reliable, dependable, polite, and courteous at all times to park visitors, staff, and volunteers / interns.

Must set an exemplary example.
