DescriptionThe Geotechnical Intern will work collaboratively with the responsible geotechnical engineer as part of the Burns & McDonnell Geotechnical Department.

The Geotechnical Intern will support and assist in completing requests for engineering-related services by the Geotechnical Department.

Assist in the geotechnical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion as directed by the responsible geotechnical engineer.

Assist with research and compile project-related data (geotechnical data, boring logs, subsurface profiles) as directed by the responsible geotechnical engineer.

Assist with planning subsurface explorations and laboratory testing programs as the responsible geotechnical engineer directs.

Apply basic knowledge of commonly used geotechnical engineering / design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the geotechnical engineering services industry.

Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation, Power Point presentation.Assist with responses to general questions.

Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.Present solutions to concerns.Research solutions to project concerns;

analyze and recommend solutions to problems.Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.

Performs other duties as assignedComplies with all policies and standardsQualificationsPursuit of Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering related degree from an accredited program.

Pursuit of Master’s degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering from an accredited program strongly preferred.Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and / or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.

Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.Prior internship and / or related consulting experience preferred.Involvement on campus or in the community.

Basic knowledge in standard geotechnical engineering techniques, principles and procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).Basic computer skills include Geotechnical analysis programs preferred (e.

g., Ensoft, FAD) and AutoCAD.Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.

Demonstrated leadership skills.Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
