The University of Southern California, Department of Animal Resources, is seeking a responsible, self-motivated, and organized individual for the position of Resident Veterinarian.
The Department of Animal Resources takes pride in providing optimal animal care for all animals housed at the University for the purposes of biomedical research and teaching.
Job Summary : The Department of Animal Resources (DAR) has one (1) position open for a Resident Veterinarian in Laboratory Animal Medicine (LAM) starting July 4.
The program is designed to prepare veterinarians for a career in LAM. The residency is approved by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) and fulfills eligibility requirements for the ACLAM certifying examination.
The resident will rotate within DAR services and gain experience in the medical, surgical, anesthetic, and colony management of a variety of laboratory animal models used at USC.
Residents will have the opportunity to spend time with our sister program at The City of Hope and The Beckman Research Institute.
Residents will also participate in the activities of both USC and City of Hope IACUC. The residency is a -month program with a strong emphasis on clinical opportunities.
Responsibilities / Outcomes :
- Provide clinical, diagnostic, and surgical services and care to animals
- Manage preventive medical programs including rodent health surveillance, quarantine, and diagnostic laboratory activities.
Participate in IACUC activities including investigator interactions, protocol review, and inspections
- Perform post-approval monitoring of animal research protocols
- Provide training programs for animal care and research staff members
- Provide research support and consultation to principal investigators
- Assist in maintaining university compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and policies
- Participate in ACLAM-approved didactic training program
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested within the scope of knowledge and abilities. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time
- Share on-call and holiday coverage with other DAR veterinarians
Minimum Qualifications :
- Minimum Education : D. V. M or equivalent
- Minimum Field of expertise : California Veterinary medical license, license in at least one state, or eligibility for licensure in California
- Excellent administrative skills including recordkeeping, prioritizing multiple tasks, researching information, scheduling, and applying understood policies and procedures
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
