Department Information

The Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience (IBB, The Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience (IBB, https : / / research.

gatech.edu / bio ) is located in Georgia Tech's thriving Biotechnology Complex was launched in 1995 and has since grown to include 240+ faculty.

IBB serves to catalyze new research and education initiatives at the interface of bioengineering and bioscience and integrate the broad range of bio-related activities throughout Georgia Tech and its partner institutions.

This position is within the Systems Mass Spectrometry Core Facility, Metabolomics and Small Molecule Analysis in IBB. To learn more, please go here - research.

Responsibilities include :

  • Provide proteomics service to broad range of research labs :
  • Productively interface with Georgia Tech or external customers
  • Sample handling / extraction / preparation for mass spec-based analysis
  • Quantitative or semi-quantitative mass spec analysis of prepared samples
  • Basic bioinformatics analysis (additional skills in this area are highly coveted)
  • Timely and professional delivery of results to customer labs
  • Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art instrumentation and / or methodologies and acquire / incorporate when / where possible to improve core facility performance
  • Maintain an organized and safe work environment

Job Summary

Perform a variety of technical activities required for conducting tests and experiments in a school or research laboratory within the Institute.

Includes data collection and analyses, experiment preparation and equipment setup and operation. This position will interact on a consistent basis with : academic and research faculty, co-workers.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Gather, compile and summarize data in conjunction with assigned scientific tests, experiments, etc.

Job Duty 2 -

Prepare statistical analyses and maintain related records..

Job Duty 3 -

Operate various equipment used in research studies.

Job Duty 4 -

Participate as directed in experiment design and preparation.

Job Duty 5 -

Participate as directed in preparation of presentations and manuscripts.

Job Duty 6 -

Maintain laboratory equipment.

Job Duty 7 -

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Required Qualifications

Position requires ability to be responsive to diverse client groups, to be flexible with changing deadlines and priorities, and possess understanding of university culture.

Required Experience

One to two years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidate with research experience in Liquid Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry and Metabolomics.
  • Use of required skills practiced in a university environment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS

This job requires working knowledge of research lab equipment and support processes and practices. Includes skill in data organization, statistical analysis and use of statistical and scientific computer applications.

Salary Range : $17.01 per hour - $20.08 per hour (nonexempt). S alary will commensurate with experience and education.

Due to the responsibilities of this position, this role requires an onsite presence on Georgia Tech's Atlanta campus (100%).
