SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY :

The SEL Street Team Representative is someone who is responsible for personifying and championing Social and emotional learning in the real world through student and teacher interactions.

Every student deserves a champion! The SEL Street Team are champions empowers children to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

SEL is an all-hands-on-deck effort. Recruiting others to become SEL champions is important for attaining widespread awareness and buy-in.

Here are resources, ideas, and initiatives that can help you get large-scale SEL buy-in from important stakeholders. Through the mentorship and mindset, we improve student engagement, build growth mindsets, and inspire positive classroom culture.

They advocate for social-emotional learning to occur with people in their community and aid the emotional health and well-being of students, staff, and families of the IPS community.

They will travel amongst different schools and within the community to fulfill the needs of this role. This role provides privileged access to the inner workings of the IPS Unified Student Supports (USS) Department.

They inspire and engage in transformative action in education. The successful candidate will be discrete, high-energy, agile-minded, strategic, proactive, a direct communicator, highly organized and committed to the vision and values of IPS and IPS USS.

WHAT YOU’LL DO :

The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote the value of social-emotional learning for staff and students.
  • Evangelize the importance of social-emotional learning.
  • Advertising social emotional learning curriculum and events on social media and networking events.
  • Spreading awareness through word-of-mouth marketing techniques, forums interviews, and networking opportunities.
  • Distributing posters, stickers, and flyers throughout their communities
  • Convincing consumers to attend events or purchase products
  • Operating as the face of a brand in physical and virtual networks
  • Attending relevant events to promote their brand
  • Transporting promotional materials to and from various locations
  • Offering exclusive giveaways, promotions, or trials of a company’s product
  • Ability to learn how to conduct a One-on-One
  • Facilitation skills
  • Data entry and record-keeping basics, and data analysis
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Equitable School Supports

Day In the Life Overview

On a regular day, as the Social and Emotional Learning Specialist, you might :

  • Model best practices and teach sample lessons when appropriate
  • Plan design and lead ongoing professional learning opportunities to improve instruction for SEL
  • Maintain reports and records relating to Social and Emotional Learning programs
  • Contribute SEL information to monthly newsletters for social workers and school counselors
  • Provide regular updates to leadership regarding SEL implementation progress
  • Assist in the administration and analysis of required surveys and develop recommendations based on findings
  • Coordinate with other departments, offices, and organizations to support Social and Emotional Learning programming
  • Provide support services and collaborates with leaders to provide guidance that supports achievement, social / emotional success, and program / initiative implementation.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

Certified Candidates : Certification or ability to be fully certified by the Indiana Department of Education

Candidates may be licensed in school counseling, school social work, specialeducation, or have a similar experiences in another IDOE approved area of licensure

Classified Candidates : Five or more years of experience providing behavioral interventions and support, wrap around services, and / or multi-tiered systems of support in the K-12 setting;

undergraduate education and completion is required

  • Note : IPS Human Resources will determine if candidates should be on the classified or certified track based on licensure, undergraduate and professional experience, etc.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience as a skillful practitioner and evidence of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to execute this role at a high level
  • Working knowledge of federal and state special education and 504 laws, rules, and practices including IDEA and Article 7
  • Broad knowledge of Indiana and IPS special education policies, procedures and programs
  • Ability to be creative in developing alternatives to meet district, department, school, and student needs
  • A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group of actors.
