Mission or Goal of Unit : Themission of the Division of Urology within the VCU Department of Surgery is thepursuit of excellence in all three areas of an academic surgical practice : teaching, research, and patient care.
The Division of Urology is dedicated to the pursuit of diversity in allaspects of our division, including faculty, residents, and staff.
Chief Purpose of this position : This position is an open rank, collateral,non-tenure track faculty position in the area of Urology.
The faculty member willalso support the division with teaching responsibilities at the undergraduateand graduate levels.
The faculty member will be responsible forproviding clinical services and developing a service line for endourology,nephrolithiasis, BPH and HoLEPS.
Thefaculty member will also develop a endourology fellowship and also provideclinical care at VCU Hospital and a satellite clinic.
The clinical position will cover the fullbreadth of urologic care for nephrolithiasis, BPH and general urology at VCUand the VA.
Position Responsibilities :
Teaching
The faculty member will have teachingresponsibilities including formal lectures and case presentations toundergraduate medical students encompassing all areas of urology and appliedanatomy and physiology.
Research
The faculty member will be expectedto be an active participant in clinical trials in their subspecialtyinterest.
Service
The faculty member will serve on departmentaland / or university committees as necessary, as well as in a professionalcapacity in their field, e.
g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
Clinical
The faculty member will be expected to build and maintain abusy patient centered clinical practice with focus on minimally invasivesurgery, PCNL, and HoLEPS for the management of nephrolithiasis, BPH and otherurologic disease.
This includes bothinpatient and outpatient management of all urological diagnoses and operativeprocedures. Opportunities will exist forexpansion of VCU Division of Urology services to outlying clinics andsurrounding communities.
Amultidisciplinary approach is encouraged with our colleagues in medicaloncology, radiation oncology, nephrology, transplant medicine, and others.
Required Qualifications :
- Mustbe board certified in urology or board eligible
- Dedicated to teaching residents and medicalstudents
- Demonstratedexperience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and studentenvironment or commitment to do soas a faculty member at VCU is required
- Commitmentto laboratory and / or clinical research within the faculty member's subspecialtyinterest
Preferred Qualifications :
- EndourologyFellowship training or equivalent experience in HoLEPS and PCNL's
- Teaching experience at theundergraduate or graduate level
- Additional experience in quality andeducation
