Job Title : Direct Support Professional
Location : Yuma, AZ
Position Overview :
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides coaching, mentoring, and direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, and epilepsy.
The role focuses on meeting the personal needs of members in Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF) and group home settings, helping them develop and maintain daily living skills.
This position requires compassion, flexibility, and the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays in a 24-hour residential care environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Facilitate activities and programs to help members develop and maintain essential skills.
- Assist and teach members daily living skills such as bathing, toileting, dressing, and meal preparation.
- Perform housekeeping tasks like dusting, washing clothes, cleaning dishes, and disinfecting equipment.
- Prepare, cook, and serve meals as needed, following specialized diet requirements.
- Implement the member’s Individual Support Plan, including behavior support and therapeutic programs.
- Participate in team meetings to develop and review individual support plans for members.
- Administer medications and provide basic health care as needed.
- Encourage and support members in recreational activities both at home and in the community.
- Maintain flexibility in work schedule, with shifts that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to lift / carry at least 50 lbs. and push / pull at least 50 lbs.
Skills Required :
- Basic housekeeping and cleaning skills
- Knowledge of human rights and personal care support
- Ability to plan and facilitate activities to meet the specific needs of members
- Basic cooking skills and familiarity with nutritional principles and special mealtime techniques
- Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate using sign language if needed
- Time management and organizational skills
- Compassion and respect for others
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions and understand Individual Support Plans
- Basic computer skills, including email and timesheet entry
- Willingness to learn and apply physical, occupational, and speech therapy techniques
- Proper lifting techniques and body mechanics knowledge
- Ability to learn behavior support techniques and medication administration procedures
Experience Required : No prior experience required
Education Required : High School Diploma or GED
