These individuals create an emotionally safe, non-punitive setting that is engaging and nurturing. All progress and significant events are documented and discussed with the Treatment Team, to ensure everyone is on the same page about doing what is in the best interests of our clients.
Anderson Health Services is launching mental and behavioral health programs to provide 24 / 7 emotional support to clients with a history of complex trauma.
The hours for this position are 7am-3pm. Everyone is dedicated to offering high quality, culturally sensitive care to adolescents in need of emotional help and support.
The Youth Counselor & Mentor at Anderson Health Services is expected to :
Responsible for being aware of where all assigned residents are and what they are always doing. When assigned to a one-to-one with a client, the requirement is to always have eyes on the client during the assigned period.
If observing a client leaving the premises, the expectation is to follow them until further assistance can be provided.
- Facilitate residential daily schedule including participating in, and providing support to residents, to include but not limited to, activities such as chores, deep clean of designated space, meal service, laundry service, groups, activities, and events.
- Provide transportation to residents for community outings and meetings in company vehicles in a safe and legal manner.
- Practice compliance with all policies, record keeping requirements, checklist assignments, assigned documentation, and any other assigned duties.
- Remain current and up to date on all training and certifications required to maintain employment with Newport Academy.
- Create a healthy, loving environment in the home.
- Provide for the wellbeing of the young people in the home, helping to prepare meals, ensuring good hygiene, directing them in completing chores, monitoring the general health of the residents, etc.
- Demonstrate an ability to implement rules and boundaries in a caring, understanding fashion.
- Handle conflict in a productive manner.
- Engage in healthy recreation with the residents.
- Provide transportation for residents as needed.
- Provide proper supervision throughout assigned shifts.
- Perform other program duties as scheduled.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field required OR an Associate's Degree with a minimum of two years of population specific experience working with the youth is required.
Additional Requirements
Must be 21 years and older and have a valid NC driver's license with a good driving record. Must be able to demonstrate effective self-regulation strategies.
Must be coachable and willing to learn. All potential job candidates must pass a drug screening and background check.
