Brown’s Division of Biology and Medicine composed of the Program in Biology and The Warren Alpert Medical School is home to numerous centers of excellence in education, biomedical research, and clinical care.
The Office of BioMedical
Communications provides a comprehensive, holistic communications operation that builds visibility and reputation for the Division of Biology and Medicine and increases engagement with various constituencies.
Under the leadership of the
Assistant Dean of BioMedical Communications, the office is organized into three core teams Editorial; Digital; and Events that work collaboratively to create multi-modal communications and experiences.
The Senior Events Manager
leads the Events team and oversees event management and strategy for the Division.
The Senior Events Manager designs, establishes, and oversees the integrated logistical and administrative support needs of multiple, complex, and wide-reaching BioMed and third-party events, conferences, and / or other programs that support the Division’s education, research, wellness, and community engagement goals.
The incumbent is responsible for all aspects of event execution, from preparing financial estimates, securing necessary technology and furniture equipment, and advising on and ordering required catering, to arranging building security and being on site during an event.
The Senior Events Manager also directs and oversees an event coordinator who may be solely responsible for some events. For virtual events, the Senior Events Manager may provide direction on Media Services support.
Given the nature of the event schedules, some early mornings, evenings and weekends are required. Working Memorial Day Weekend is required as that is when Commencement exercises are held.
This position is eligible for a flexible hybrid schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of event / conference planning, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proven experience organizing and managing large, complex events
- Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to initiate, collaborate, implement, monitor, evaluate and advance strategic plans that support the activities of the program and contribute to the overall goals
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Experience with budget management
- Strong customer service orientation
- Supervision experience
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed
- Knowledge of audiovisual equipment useful

- Incumbent must be organized and experienced enough to oversee multiple events in a high- paced, academic medical center environment.
