Mechanical Engineer II

MISSION

As a Mechanical Engineer at Gilson, you will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and enhance mechanical solutions. Assignments will be broad in nature, requiring initiative, originality and ingenuity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze project requirements, system architecture and subsystem design and determine hardware implementation plans
  • Participate in evaluating architectural tradeoffs to optimize project, product and opportunity costs
  • Work with Product Marketing to develop plans for learning through voice-of-the-customer
  • Work with various agencies to meet compliance requirements and approvals
  • Participate in risk analysis and develop mitigation plans as required
  • Provide estimates of time and materials
  • Develop and verify designs against implementation and risk mitigation plans
  • Partner with suppliers to ensure high-quality prototypes and releases
  • Work with Production and Customer Support to successfully release products for production and Quality Assurance
  • Mentor and direct the activities of more junior engineers and third-party partners
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience

SKILLS OR KNOWLEDGE

  • Full product life cycle experience including bringing product to market
  • Experience in technologies required for lab automation
  • Experience in the design of high precision mechanical parts and assemblies
  • Experience using SolidwWorks (preferred) or similar solid modeling software
  • Experience with machining / metal fabrication (plate, tube, sheet metal, extrusions, castings, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven success in a team setting

PHYSICAL ABILITY

  • Good or corrected vision
  • Able to lift 30lbs minimum

ADDITIONAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE DESIRE

  • Experience in high-reliability industry, such as medical device, military, aerospace, automotive, or telecommunications
  • Familiarity with manufacturing / production processes
  • Experience with reliability engineering
  • Proficiency in French
