CIVIL STRUCTURAL DESIGNER

The Contract Senior Civil / Structural Designer should possess the skills, experience, and knowledge to support the Project Management Team .

This position reports directly to the Manager of Engineering at the current time and will assist other engineering and design positions as needed to effectively coordinate design and quality practices.

The successful candidate is required to exhibit excellent communication abilities, technical proficiency, proactive & positive discipline leadership and a continuous pursuit of safety while in the office and performing field observations.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Technical Responsibilities

• Support of engineering design and analysis projects for the oil & gas, mining, and renewable power industries
• Advanced application of technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts. This will include reading and understanding design drawings and technical specifications as necessary to support preparation of project deliverables, such as calculations and specifications
• Design and analysis of changes to existing structures as well as new building systems / design
• Foundation design and mechanical & electrical system support calculations, designs, and specifications
• Develop roadway designs and specifications
• Perform reviews, assemble and prepare design reports
• Development of drawings using CAD software (Civil3D, ArcGIS, STAAD.Pro)
• Coordinate design elements with other project / discipline team members
• Perform site walkdowns to identify design solutions and develop cost-effective problem resolution
• Perform site inspections and field support for construction of structural designs
• Literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Teams at a minimum)
• Willingness to travel as required for project development (less than 10% is normal)
• Must be able to traverse client sites to conduct walkdowns including, but not limited to, climbing ladders and stairs
• Must be able to work outside at client sites in all weather conditions
• Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship

Project Management

• Assist leadership on large scale FEED and Detail Design stage projects
• Assist leadership on small scale C / S focused FEED and Detail Design stage projects
• Assist in effective management of discipline budget and schedule
• Communicate and develop project change requests to Project Management
• Assist in maintaining strong communication lines with clients and project team members (internal and external)

Business Development

• Provides technical support to the Business Development Team, as needed.
• Generates labor estimates, deliverable lists, technical & commercial qualifications
• Coordinates proposed design concepts with other engineering disciplines and proposal staff
• Constantly promotes the Company and capitalizes upon opportunities to capture work

Pulsar Corporate Support

• Actively promotes the Spartan safety culture.
• Actively promotes Spartan as a national company.
• Actively support Spartans diversity & inclusion culture.
• Input time into Ajera time keeping system in accordance with Company Standards.
• Bi-weekly or monthly invoice to be generated and approved for payment in accordance with Pulsar Accounting standards.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE :

• Minimum Associates Degree in drafting and / or 10 + years of experience in design related position
• Minimum of 10-12 years of C / S design experience
• Ability to be an individual contributor and work effectively in teams
• Strong technical survey experience both in the field and the office is a plus
• Familiar with latest material codes for steel, concrete, cold-formed steel and other industrial materials
• Familiar with the International Building code and building code design
