General Description
The Associate Dean, Student Success & Engagement supports the Associate Vice President / Dean of Students in the management of administrative and operational efficiencies with the Student Support & Engagement division.
Primary responsibilities include divisional communications, contracts, budgets, and necessary reporting. This position assists in evaluating current and proposed processes and procedures to support the attainment of the divisional goals and objectives, as well as making recommending and managing implementation of new processes.
The Associate Dean is responsible for the management of the Assessment Center, Library, Learning Labs / Student Academic Computing, Center on Disability, and Student Success Initiatives.

Provides leadership and supervision for the administrators, faculty and staff responsible for the departments, programs and services within assigned areas;
including the Assessment Center, Library, Learning Labs / Student Academic Computing, Center on Disability, and Student Success Initiatives.
- Assist the AVP / Dean of Students in assuring the division success of College’s Strategic Plan and the Academic and Student Success Master Plan and Division initiatives.
- Serve as part of the senior leadership team for the Student Support & Engagement Unit; works cooperatively with colleagues and Academic and Student Success staff to further the mission, vision and goals of the College and Academic and Student Success Division.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the institution and represent areas of responsibility within the College and the community with affiliating agencies, organizations and other educational institutions through service on task forces, self studies, committees and other assignments by the Associate Vice President Student Support and Engagement, Dean of Students.
- Lead the IPEDS team tracking students in three cohorts each year.
- Meet with Advisors weekly to track data and to identify issues that need attention.
- Partner with Institutional Effectiveness in the creation of reports for senior leadership.
- Oversee the assignment of Academic Advisor assignments in Banner.
- Oversee faculty advisor and STARFISH progress survey completion
- Manage the Exhibit Area in Library Learning Commons
- Oversee the successful and efficient utilization of Student Success software.
- Assists the Associate Vice President Student Support and Engagement, Dean of Students in developing, implementing, evaluating and monitoring academic and administrative policies and procedures as requested.
- Plan, implement and administer the relevant operational and capital budgets for areas supervised as well as assist in the development of grant proposals and administration of secured grants.
- Responsible for recommending hiring, retention, promotion, and supporting professional development for staff in areas supervised.
Assures compliance with all Board policies, EEOC / M laws, and other relevant regulations and guidelines.
- Represent the College on self-studies, feasibility reports and other committees as assigned by Associate Vice President Student Support and Engagement, Dean of Students
- Work to support the development of grant proposals and administration of secured grants.
- Responsible for implementation of relevant collective bargaining agreements in areas of supervision and employee relations for non-union staff.
- Responsible for the quality and safety of the work environment; assures that safety precautions are followed in all instructional areas and that unsafe conditions are reported promptly and dealt with as necessary.
- Deliver quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional helpful and courteous manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education, Higher Education Administration or related degree required. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
- Seven (7) years of directly related administrative experience in higher education is required.
- Ability to make data-driven and solution-oriented decisions required.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills required.
- Strong team building and collaboration skills as well as the ability to develop and implement student success initiatives required.
- Documented success in developing and enhancing student success initiatives.
- Excellent organizational and managerial skills.
- Documented success in data-driven decision-making, problem solving, and working productively and collaboratively with others.
- Excellent communication and technical skills.
- Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds required.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD, EdD or other appropriate degree preferred.
- Membership in appropriate educational associations / organizations preferred.
- Three (3) years of demonstrated increasing administrative responsibility such as direct supervision, and budget management preferred.
