Position Summary :
The Department Team Leader coordinates the daily activities of the area operating associates in a safe and cost-effective manner.
This includes communicating standards and requirements to the team, ensuring workload balance within assigned area, eliciting effective communication within the team as well as with other teams, directing and supporting continuous improvement and training through his / her own personal leadership, and making decisions in assigned area of responsibility.
The Department Team Leader is responsible for internal department performance, as well as shift performance, in addition to providing partnership and collaboration between other site departments and leadership.
Essential Functions : The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following :
- Lead safety discussions, audits, etc. Apply all safety regulations that meet OSHA and Mactac safety guidelines. Conducts incident investigations and ensures housekeeping standards are maintained.
- Serve as a technical resource to help formulate, monitor, and enforce goals of the area. This includes providing performance feedback, SOP implementation, and problem solving and ensuring an atmosphere that foster continuous improvement in a team environment.
- Substitutes as needed for team members.
- Coordinates inbound and outbound shipments according to schedules.
- Ensures work assignments for the area. Trains team members, shares knowledge and provides coordination through the qualification process.
- Responsible for management of 2nd shift Team Lead and other shipping personnel.
- Participates with their other team members in planning and performing / assisting in equipment maintenance and repair.
- Coaches through troubleshooting process to develop employees to be self-sufficient in troubleshooting and involved in the decision-making processes.
- Provide collaboration on site performance amongst other departments.
- Provide communication on department performance, needs etc. to appropriate site partners and leadership.
- Provide support with required staffing within the department.
- Reports daily on team's attendance and performance, fill rate, processes, safety and facility issues and concerns.
- Monitors and analyzes fill rate efficiencies such as products picked, packed, shipped, and meeting the ship date. Initiates corrections in cooperation with and / or at the direction of the Department Manager and technical support personnel.
- Foster the team process among the operating members with regards to communications, organization, and meetings. This is accomplished through team involvement in all aspects of the operation.
Ensures decisions are made (internal and external).
- Ensure that planning for meeting customer expectations is being performed by department associates. This includes planning for various shifts, on-time orders, custom orders, and meeting customer demands.
- Ensures that the material handlers gather data as required and provide visual feedback as to their progress. Handles and / or directs all required administrative duties for both shifts.
- Ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally, with various people both inside and outside the company.
- Possess proficient computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet creation / maintenance, and e-mail applications
Qualification Requirements :
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty as a strong and consistent performer.
Candidates must have good attendance and not be under discipline at any level above the verbal level. He / she must be viewed as a knowledgeable and capable employee.
They must be a trained warehouse material handler and be able to maintain specific equipment. They must be highly driven to do what is right.

Education Requirements :
- High School / GED
- Management experience preferred
