Department Information

Georgia Tech Human Resources (GTHR) serves the Institute and its more than 14,000 employees through strategic counsel, employee engagement, and essential human capital management operations.

As the people's unit, GTHR is engaged throughout the employee's lifetime at Georgia Tech. Our team works with sensitive employee information and assists in the management of complex employee issues.

What we do :

  • Process payroll and maintain employment data for approximately 14,000 active faculty, staff, and students
  • Strive to attract, recruit, and retain the best talent in the marketplace.
  • Provide immigration, labor, and tax support required for foreign national faculty and staff to work at Georgia Tech and support employees performing services overseas.
  • Leverage a market-driven compensation structure to attract and retain employees.
  • Advise employees and managers regarding work performance and conflict management.

Job Summary

Serve as a key strategic advisor to senior leadership and department management of one or more large, complex units with multiple dissimilar departments, employee classes, and other HR needs.

This position will collaborate with unit leadership and the Georgia Tech Office of Human Resources (GTHR) to assess and anticipate HR-related needs and develop integrated solutions.

The position develops partnerships across HR to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects unit- and institute-wide objectives.

Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance, providing feedback, and making pay recommendations.

  • This position will interact on a regular basis with Senior leadership, faculty, Institute HR leadership, unit management, HRBP, and staff.
  • This position typically will advise and counsel Senior leadership, faculty, Institute HR leadership, unit management, HRBP, and staff.
  • This position will supervise assigned staff.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Collaborate with unit leadership and GTHR to increase employee and manager performance and advance the interests of the unit within the context of strategic goals and talent strategies.

Job Duty 2 -

Guide the development of strategic direction and collaborate with GTHRpresent analysis and recommendations related to human capital.

Job Duty 3 -

Lead unit in full-scope performance management, partnering with GTHR to provide excellent resources and service.

Job Duty 4 -

Coach and advise leaders and managers within the unit; collaborate with GTHR to facilitate leadership development, including leadership / management training.

Job Duty 5 -

Ensure employee-relations support and consultation with department management.

Job Duty 6 -

Manage relationships and resources between the unit and GTHR, supporting a balance of unique unit needs with consistency across the Institute.

Job Duty 7 -

Support the HRBP in their unit. Oversee and facilitate unit HR programs and processes, including restructuring & reorganization, talent management, workforce planning, succession planning, etc.

Facilitate change management and communications.

Job Duty 8 -

Manage, develop, and support direct reports and other staff providing HR support for the unit. Supervise, review, and approve document submission for HR processes.

Job Duty 9 -

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience

Seven years of job-related experience in Human Resources.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications

Master's degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business, or related field or equivalent education and experience.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional / Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP / CP) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) / Professional in Human Resources (PHR).

Proposed Salary

Pay Range : $81,619-$111,002 / yr

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

Supervisory experience (project management involving supervision of others' work is also considered) is strongly preferred.

Experience in higher education, industry, public sector, or state agency. Experienced successfully leading teams. Management consulting and previous senior-level management experience with a large and complex institution.

Working knowledge and demonstrated experience in multiple practice areas of HR, including but not limited to Title IX, talent management, data analytics, risk management, workforce planning, human resource development, strategic business management, change management, global and international human resource capabilities, compensation and benefits, and HR Technology.

HR Expertise, Relationship Management, Consultation, Leadership & Navigation, Communication, Ethical Practice, Critical Evaluation, Business Acumen.

SKILLS

Effectively communicates with strong oral communication, listening, and writing skills. Complex problem-solving skills, flexible, and good decision-making ability.

Collaborative leader and team player. Promotes positivity and inclusiveness.

Possesses strong HR expertise and consulting skills. Proven experience with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint necessary for creating visually and verbally engaging materials, reports, presentations, and proposals for departmental heads and management.

ABILITIES

Demonstrate ability to manage others and prioritize work under rapidly changing conditions. Able to work effectively on multiple assignments concurrently.

Ability to recognize, handle, and protect sensitive / confidential information. Ability to proactively engage and share information with the Executive Director / Sr Director of Human Resources to ensure alignment and timely updates.

Ability to move a group with a unified vision and common objective and in a common direction.
