BGE, Inc., a nationwide engineering consulting firm that provides services in civil engineering, planning, construction phase administration, and environmental services for public and private clients, is looking to hire a Construction Inspector to join our construction management team in Waco.

Scope : Inspects construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications;
may serve as the only inspector on a construction project or assist in overseeing construction inspection activities for very large and / or complex projects within a district or conduct statewide construction inspection activities.
Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work. Work requires contact with contractors.
May perform materials tests and manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Construction inspectors perform detailed inspection and management of highway construction projects of widely varying size and scope, from major interstate reconstruction, highway rehabilitations, bridge replacements, pedestrian upgrades, and much more.
Location : Waco, TX
Experienced Construction Inspector :
- Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.
- Calculates / plots / documents payments due contractors for work completed.
- Ensures contractors build roadways, bridges and related contract improvements in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans and ensures compliance with approved safety standards and inspects barricades
- Observes and inspects ongoing construction work.
- Assists in preparation of monthly and final estimates.
- Documents (digitally and hardcopy) work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Additional duties for a Construction Inspector II include :
- Serves as a lead worker or project leader.
- Resolves differences in interpretation of plans and specifications.
Education - Construction Inspector : High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience :
4 + years in construction, maintenance and repairs, construction inspection, engineering support, materials or process inspection;
or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis .

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions :
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions

- Medium work : Lift up to 50lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25lbs
- Walking / Standing while carrying objects for prolonged periods of time
Technical :
- Observe and inspect construction methods and workmanship performed by a contractor or subcontractor
- Document and report to the supervisor whether activity was completed in accordance with contract documents.
- Conduct observation and documentation for specific testing procedures outlined in the specifications.
- Communicate with materials testing consultants on site, to identify concerns or issues to be elevated to supervisor.
- Document construction progress through site pictures and notes.
- Maintain notes / records showing daily construction progress for use in preparing monthly pay estimates.
- Assist with preparing monthly pay estimates.
- Engage in training on basic technical aspects of inspection.
- Possess an intermediate understanding of technical drawings and plans.
- Possess basic to intermediate skills with applicable design software and field of technical study.
- Possess mathematical skills required to calculate and check project quantities.
Management :
- Communicate with contractors and client representatives under the supervision of a higher-level inspector.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of plans and specifications.
- Ensure daily logs and daily work reports (DWR's) are completed thoroughly and accurately by end of the work day.
- Self-planning and self-management of daily work activities.
- Aware of and work within requirements associated with working at heights and / or in confined spaces.
- Abide by safety policies and complete all require safety training.
- Demonstrate safe work practices and avoid unsafe behaviors.
- Observe and report unsafe work practices on a jobsite to higher level inspector or supervisor.
- Possess basic self-awareness, self-reflection, self-management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to learn and / or engage in active listening and empathy skills.
- Ability to foster and maintain successful working relationships.
- Possess intermediate written and verbal communication skills.
- Possess a strong work ethic with attention to detail.

- Flexibility to travel to projects, covering the DFW-WAC-PAR TxDOT markets.

- Nighttime and weekend work is likely; flexible schedule
- Basic computer skills (MS suite - word, excel, etc.)
- Intermediate knowledge / experience of TxDOT SiteManager
- Basic knowledge / skills of computer programs and applications such as BlueBeam, Adobe are a plus
- TxDOT material certifications are a plus
- Valid driver license
