About the organization
A nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare and the protection of animals in the Peninsula area of the San Francisco Bay Area in California that offers various services and programs focused on animal care, adoption, education, and advocacy.
Summary : As part of the Behavior & Training team, this role assesses and enhances the adoption potential of dogs and cats through direct interaction, provides counseling during adoption sessions, manages helpline inquiries, and teaches dog training classes to volunteers and the public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Update TLC boards as assigned.
- Perform daily behavior modification for selected shelter animals.
- Assist in training department volunteers.
- Collaborate with managers on the adoption or euthanasia of animals due to behavioral issues.
- Maintain a positive and educational approach when interacting with the public, staff, and volunteers.
- Counsel the public on responsible animal care (e.g., spaying / neutering, vaccinations).
- Lead the Enrichment program as assigned.
- Handle Animal Behavior Helpline calls with a customer-friendly approach.
- Use positive reinforcement methods for training.
- Conduct one-on-one behavior consultations for recent adopters.
- Manage emotionally charged situations effectively.
- Prepare program reports as needed.
- Collaborate actively with other departments.
- Supervise volunteers in behavior programs.
Qualifications :
- Highly motivated towards the welfare of animals with customer service and animal handling experience.
- Availability for afternoon shifts, Tuesday Saturday.
- Background check required upon hire.
Education and Experience :
One to two years of related experience or equivalent education and experience; animal behavior experience is a plus.
