Job Summary :
Responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating recreational therapy services in conjunction with Janus Developmental Services team members.
Clients will be either community or home based. Create and facilitate program activities to meet company and client goals, quality standards, and produce positive client growth and development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Follows all established organization and department policies, procedures, objectives and meets quality standards. Assists in maintaining a safe working environment throughout the organization by adhering to all safety management policies and procedures which reflect the mission and philosophy of Janus Developmental Services.
Attends all mandatory meetings and trainings; and maintains all professional certifications and / or licenses if required for the job.
Arrives for work on time, returns from breaks and lunch periods and maintains regular attendance for work that does not exceed the allowable standards for paid time off programs or other approved leave.
1. Maintain and organize schedule and caseload of clients with support from management.
2. Plan, coordinate, and implement recreational therapy interventions for clients.
3. Will use APIE process (assess, plan, implement and evaluate)
4. Will require collaborating with clients, therapy team and case manager.
5. Documentation will be required to be completed within 24 hours of therapy session.
6. Counsel program participants on positive and appropriate behavior.
7. Report and complete appropriate forms on all accommodations, accidents, incidents, injuries, seizures, and behaviors as required.
8. Comply with all agency policies and procedures, CARF accreditation standards, and BQIS compliance indicators.
9. Document all received training on appropriate form.

Education and Experience :
Bachelors / Masters in Recreational Therapy.
Proven ability to manage time effectively, keep work organized and work independently. Proven ability to work on a team and think of creative solutions to problems.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coach and direct participants.
Certifications / Licenses :
Valid IN driver's license and proof of insurability.
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) Random drug testing required.
Language Requirements :
Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Reasoning Requirements :
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Math Requirements :
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Computer Requirements :
Job requires some use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Accel software.
Judgement and Independent Action Requirements :
Ability to assess individual client needs in the moment and adjust program instruction accordingly. Creation of program activities and content.
Physical Requirements :
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel;
and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; and reach with hands / arms. The employee must occasionally stand and lift or move up to 10 lbs.

Job Pressures : Work regularly requires the ability to address client behaviors and coach clients on proper responses. Work frequently requires addressing client behaviors in public, where there is less opportunity to strictly control the situation (during outings).
Work also frequently requires independence, as the Doorways instructors are largely responsible for the creative ideas and content of the program.
