Stress Engineering Services is a leader in both standardized and custom full-scale testing in force, load, fatigue, temperature, pressure, torque, noise, and vibration.
With more than 130,000 square feet of laboratory space and a large inventory of advanced testing equipment, we can simulate a wide range of operational conditions for a variety of industries, applications, and materials.
Our test labs are equipped with load frames capable of forces up to 10 million pounds, pressure chambers up to 30,000 psi, and a variety of fatigue and bending frames.
These are just a few of our vast capabilities in testing heavy industry and oilfield equipment including tubing and casing threaded connections, riser connectors, drilling equipment, umbilicals, mooring ropes, anchors chains, riser joints, downhole tools, and more.
In addition to this, we also test small and fragile items for a variety of other industries.
We are seeking an entry-level Testing Engineer to intern in our test labs in Houston and Waller, Texas for Spring 2023.
Responsibilities
Work with engineers and senior technicians to setup and perform tests on a wide variety of equipment. Test setups include pressure, temperature, force, vibration, and other parameters to simulate working environments and / or extreme conditions.
All parameters are recorded via PC based data acquisition systems. Other duties include use of hand and power tools, installation and troubleshooting of various sensors, strain gage applications, hydraulic circuit installations, operating overhead cranes, forklifts, pumps, controllers, and many other pieces of equipment required to setup and execute tests.
Qualifications
- Must have or be working toward a BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited school
- Must have a strong academic background, enjoy hands on work, and possess good people skills
- Hands-on experience in fabrication, construction, manual labor, farm or ranch work, automotive, or similar industries is a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required
- Electronic / Mechanical aptitude required
- Basic computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Excel / Word / Outlook required
- Ability to follow instructions (oral and written) while working safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment required
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English
- Must be able to pick up and carry 50lbs regularly
- Must be able to work in USA without sponsorship or need for future sponsorship
- Willing to ask questions about testing plans and to bring independent thought on methods by which tests may be done
