The Install (Construction) Estimator’s primary focus is to generate profitable revenue for the Install Division. The Estimator will work with their production teams and other members of the management team to propose our services and products within clients’ budget guidelines while still allowing a fair profit margin for LW) and in a timely and efficient manner.
Minimum Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to understand the construction process.
- Must be very organized and structured in their daily work habits.
- Ability to handle multiple deadlines in a given day.
- Ability to handle changing tasks and deadlines as they present themselves.
- Ability to produce takeoffs and estimate landscape construction / Install jobs.
- Experience with, and basic knowledge of, computer operation.
- Horticultural or related degree or industry experience is desired.
Responsibilities :
- Manage multiple project estimates at any given time.
- Identify appropriate landscape projects and obtain bid documents through job boards and relationships with general contractors, landscape architects and owners.
- Keep track of inbound bid requests and bid opportunities on databases; reach out to general contractors and landscape architects regularly to ensure we are aware of upcoming bid opportunities.
- Utilize software to calculate and compile information from construction drawings for use in bid proposal estimates.
- Put together material lists and solicit material bids from vendors.
- Put together subcontractor information and solicit bids from subcontractors.
- Maintain current and accurate information on material prices from vendors.
- Assess amount of labor needed to complete installation of plant and hard materials based on GM of Install guidance for installation time for different types of plant and / or hard materials.
- Put together complete bids using material pricing from vendors, subcontractor pricing, and our labor and travel costs.
- Deliver proposals by due dates in the format required.
- Communicate with bidding General Contractors (GCs) to make sure all Addendums, Requests for Information (RFIs , etc. are received.
Incorporate any changes as received.
- Follow up regularly with general contractors / landscape architects (LA) / owners regarding proposal status.
- Establish rapport with General Contractors, Landscape Architects and project Owners in order to create long standing relationships that establish Landscape Workshop as their vendor of choice when it comes to landscape construction and maintenance.
- Attend Pre-Construction meetings with Project Managers for on-boarding.
- Facilitate transition with General Contractor, Landscape Architect and subcontractors with Project Manager before the commencement of onsite work.
- Ensure that awarded bids have contracts signed and are packaged properly for the operations team to execute against on budget.
Go through contract and ensure verbiage and pricing is accurate to our bid. Make note of all items required by the GC to finalize contract.
This includes, but not limited to, Certificates of Insurance (COIs), licenses, W9, bonds, etc.
- Communicate with back office to obtain necessary documentation mentioned above.
- Prepare and deliver submittals and substitutions to LA or GC for approval.
