Corrections Recreation Specialist 2 Multiple positions

Oregon State Penitentiary (Salem)

We have two exciting opportunities for Corrections Recreational Specialists 2 at the Oregon State Penitentiary (OSP) in Salem, Oregon.

These positions are 4 day / 10hr shift work week. Hours can be somewhat flexible. Candidates will be required to work some evenings and weekends for special events.

These positions are represented by Association of Oregon Corrections Employees (AOCE). These positions may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

About the Job Your Role

As the Correctional Recreation Specialist, you provide program assessment, design, coordinate and implement a wide variety of social, cultural, and athletic skill acquisition and leisure time activities along with a variety of security functions.

In this position you are responsible for developing and coordinating facility events, AIC activities and Life Skills programs;

inventorying and monitoring recreation equipment and other Life Skills supplies; and assess the availability of funding, equipment, facility space, and community resources.

Design AIC program proposals for submission to your supervisor and superintendent for review and approvals. You provide supervision and serve as a liaison for all volunteers, staff, and the community to ensure training, orientation, and facility familiarization requirements are met.

Oversees club and activities section purchases and associated financial processes, provides a high level of customer service, streamlines any and all processes associated with running a revenue generating business including hiring, training, holding AICs accountable for misuse of approved ODOC financial practices and policies products, reinforcing positive behavior change, and terminating of its workers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years (3) of experience assessing, developing, coordinating, and implementing recreational programs and leisure time activities; OR
  • a Bachelor's degree in Recreational Management, Physical Education or a related field.

  • Cultural competency and working with over / underrepresented populations;
  • Maintai ning records; and
  • Making and recording behavioral observations.
