Shipping Carpenter

Position Summary

Performs the carpentry duties necessary to construct and maintain building woodwork for shipping containers including boxes, runners, or other complicated structures to secure cargo for travel.

Takes leadership position to coordinate activities for largest cargo to ship including working on site in value streams.

This also includes developing packaging solutions to safely move material using drawings of material to be packaged.

Responsibilities

Typically works from drawings or verbal instructions to develop packaging solutions. Requires ability to use all carpentry tools including but not limited to power saw, planer, router, sander, and joiner.

May operate hand saw, mortiser, drill press, wood lathe and related woodworking equipment, as well as hand and power tools.

Develops and builds woodwork for safely transporting material to be shipped

Experience and Skill Required

Takes leadership position to coordinate activities for largest cargo to ship including working on site in value streams.

Requires ability to operate forklift and overhead crane.

Able to work flexibly to safely secure cargo; at times directs work of other carpenters to complete larger shipping carpentry projects.

Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent with 5+ years of experience in the field or in a related area.
