Mace is seeking a full time Mechanical / Electrical / Plumbing (MEP) Cost Estimator for Life Science, Tenant Improvement and Industrial Manufacturing projects to work directly with our clients on capital projects, tenant improvements and real estate fit out projects.
In this role, you will collaborate directly with clients and Mace’s Project teams as owner representative. You will be responsible for reviewing or developing and managing Total Installed Cost estimates throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
Your Responsibilities Will Include :
- Serving as a client-facing cost estimator who assists with strategic, tactical, and technical advice.
- Maintaining a positive attitude and drive for success, contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Working independently as needed, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Highly competent in the measurement of quantities for input into cost models, cost plans, cost estimates and bills of quantities using both traditional and digital methods.
- Providing a detailed review of all documentation and develop comprehensive cost estimates / models that communicate our client's project and strategic goals.
- Creating cost estimates, studies, analyses, and evaluations, at all levels of project development, as part of Mace’s internal team.
- Preparing and maintaining a Basis of Estimate (BOE) for each project, using in MaceWay tools and following MaceWay Cost & commercial management procedures.
- Collaborating with project teams to ensure estimates align with MaceWay Control Centre, client expectations and industry standards.
- Setting up electronic estimate files in the appropriate format.
- Leading reviews of project estimates with the appropriate engineering disciplines within Architectural / Engineering Firms.
- Establishing craft labor rates and productivity and location factors, for estimating purposes.
- Performing bid levelling, utilizing benchmark data to support competitive pricing strategies.
- Proficient in the use of estimating software (CostX preferred).
- Preparing cost modelling and benchmarking dashboards.
- Ensuring that the principles of an estimate are supported by evidenced based pricing, methodology and assumptions
- Ensuring the estimate information covers all scope associated with the quantum and methodology
- Performing quantity take-off in a manner and level of detail consistent with the project goals.
- Data harvesting and validation of bill of quantities & weighting from Design & Engineering work packages, BIM Model Downloads and Fabrication / trades BIM updates
- Assuring that a quality product is presented to the client through adherence to the MaceWay Cost & commercial management procedures.
- Communicating effectively through clear and concise means appropriate to the project's goals (verbal, written, and graphics).
- Actively researching, soliciting, and developing sources / vendors for compiling and maintaining accuracy of cost information.
- Validating estimates from Change Orders requests
- Delivering accurate, informative, well-organized documentation.
- Ongoing updating of benchmarking efforts as new projects are executed to provide real cost data to client.
About You
- Work experience in commercial and industrial Construction with strong focus on MEP disciplines is preferred.
- You have demonstrated capital program leadership experience
- Proficient MS Excel for Data analysis and reporting purposes (Graphs & Data visualization, Pivot tables, etc.).
- OSHA 10 preferred, AACEI CCP (Certified Cost Professional), PMI PMP (Project Management Professional) or RICS are a Plus.
- Proven record working on large complex and multi-phase Life Science, fitout / tenant improvements and Industrial Manufacturing capital programs.
- Must have great analytical & effective communication skills.
- You must have knowledge of multiple project delivery methods, including alternative project delivery (Design / Bid / Build, Design Build and Construction Manager at Risk).
- Knowledge of estimating types (Class 1 to 5), methodologies and techniques.
- Understanding of productivity factors and resulting cost impacts.
- Experience with CostX estimating tool or any other estimating tool is required.
- Technically proficient in using IT systems to review and understand Engineering packages / deliverables including, but not limited to BIM software (e.
g., Autodesk Navisworks, Revit, etc.), BlueBeam. Knowledge of IPA (independent Project Analysis), Project Definition Rating Index (PDRI) benchmarking and philosophies are desirable.
