We are looking for a Creative Services Director to develop and lead the overall marketing and promotional strategy of our stations and digital platforms.

Experience with project management, news promotion, creative script writing, field and studio production, and non-linear editing experience is essential.

Here in Baton Rouge, LA, we operate 4 stations : Fox 44, NBC 33, CW21 and KZUP. These stations are either owned or operated by Nexstar Media Group, Inc.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Provides leadership for the promotions team.
  • Makes decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion, and termination of employees.
  • Develops and executes promotions strategies to enhance station competitiveness.
  • Manages and leads the department to create new and profitable initiatives and events.
  • Plans and directs staffing, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Responsible for the brand identity of the stations and website.
  • Works with Sales to plan and execute revenue-generating marketing and promotional events and contests that take place on-air, online, and on-site.
  • Creates and reviews operational records and reports to assess the efficacy of promotions.
  • Supervises local commercial production.
  • Ability to develop outside advertising plans with other media such as radio, cable, billboards, and digital.
  • Experience in working with broadcast networks in executing coop advertising and completing documentation to recover network coop reimbursement.
  • Coordinates promotion of and participation in community events
  • Oversees the station’s on-air graphics packages and related equipment.
  • Works with NBC, FOX, and the CW to promote network programming and execute co-branding opportunities.
  • Creatively writes, shoots, and edits content to tell compelling stories.
  • Manages video equipment and software needs.
  • Ability to shoot and edit scripts for short and long form spots from concept to completion.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills :

  • Minimum 3-5 years commercial production experience, preferably at a local television station or advertising agency
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising or Mass Communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Experience guiding, directing, and motivating subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Ability to identify the developmental needs of promotions team and to coach or mentor to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Experience establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
  • Advanced knowledge of the post-production process, including media management and encoding video to various formats
  • Knowledge of High-definition (HD) cameras and videography, motion graphics and proper lighting techniques
  • Software skills required include Adobe CC Suite production package including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, Adobe Creative Suite, Media Encoder, etc.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Meet all deadlines, fulfill scheduling commitments, and consistently achieve quick turnarounds in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Work Environment / Mental / Physical Requirements : This position requires the occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.

Work may be conducted in extreme outdoor weather conditions. Position may require long hours, work on weekends & evenings may be required.

High stress environment with deadline pressures. Some travel may be required. The employee in this position must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.

Repetitive movements are required.
