UH : Emergency Room (Full-Time, Day Shift)-

The Administrative Charge Nurse, Emergency Department (ED), demonstrates comprehensive clinical practice knowledge in adult and pediatric emergency and trauma services.

Functions effectively in a fast-paced emergency department with level one trauma designation, ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) receiving center designation and comprehensive stroke center accreditation in an academic teaching medical center.

Directs the shift operations based on substantial knowledge and compliance with regulations set forth by Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agency, Inland Counties Emergency Medical Association (ICEMA), and State Emergency Medical Services Authorities (EMSA), in addition to state and federal hospital regulations.

Achieves and maintains credible collegial working relationships with pre-hospital care providers, multiple law enforcement agency staff, as well as with Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) hospital inpatient services staff and physicians.

Supervises radio room activity manned by the Mobile Intensive Care Nurses (MICNs) and stays abreast of community status in regards to emergency situations, catastrophic incidents and mass casualties.

Collaborates with ED leadership and physician staff and initiates procedures in accordance with situation. Activates Hospital Emergency Response Team (HERT) out into the community when needed.

Independently supervises licensed and unlicensed staff during shift and seeks assistance if needed. Facilitates a positive environment and provides hands-on guidance to engage staff in adopting a care delivery model of accountability, empowerment, and excellence that infuses evidenced-based practice at the bedside.

Supports the director and executive director with clinical, administrative, financial and human resource management of ED operations twenty four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.

Performs other duties as needed.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required, or, Associate’s Degree in Nursing with a Bachelor’s Degree in a non-nursing field and a Master’s Degree in Nursing required.

Minimum three years nursing experience in a level one trauma center required. Minimum one year of prior management or supervisory experience preferred.

California Registered Nurse (RN) License required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required from the American Heart Association required.

Trauma Nurse Course Certification (TNCC) required. Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required. Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) certification required.

Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred. Other competencies as specified in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care required.

Advanced competencies in emergency and trauma nursing. Thorough knowledge of healthcare regulations and survey process required.

Demonstrates leadership, supervision, management and communications skills required. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in neighborhood of specialty.

Able to read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.
