Accessible Materials Coordinator/Instructional Designer I

Overview

Working within the Disability Resource Center, the Accessible Materials Coordinator (Instructional Designer I) oversees the remediation and creation of accessible materials (books, documents, PDF’s, PowerPoints, online content, for students with print disabilities.

They also work with Digital Accessibility Services to create, maintain, and carry out processes focused on university-wide digital accessibility.

This position will also manage a team of employees, providing leadership, mentorship, and support for project management.

Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain, and carry out digital accessibility processes
  • Manage a team of staff, including setting goals, delegating tasks, and providing ongoing training and support
  • Meet with university faculty and staff to consult on accessible materials and to provide accessibility training
  • Develop training materials for students, faculty, and staff on accessible materials
  • Update website content with information regarding accessible materials
  • Maintain and update a database used to manage the process of creating accessible books
  • Meet with students who use accessible materials to understand their individual needs
  • Train students on the use of accessible materials and assistive technology used for access

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree; or an associate degree and 2 years of experience developing and editing multimedia materials, preferably for education;

or an equivalent of education plus experience is required.

  • Evidence of good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Evidence of strong organization and customer service skills
  • Foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Knowledge of digital accessibility standards and guidelines (., WCAG, Section 508, ADA)
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Experience with digital accessibility tools like screen readers, accessibility checkers, and captioning software.
  • Experience supervising employees
  • Familiarity with web development or multimedia software and knowledge of HTML, CSS, and ARIA.
  • Familiarity with the Canvas Learning Management System in a professional capacity

  • Ability to apply interpersonal and communication skills in working with faculty and students to assess needs and provide solutions
  • Ability to use AI platforms to perform accessibility tasks
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a professional team
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships across campus constituencies
  • Ability to build effective and cohesive teams
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to learn basic HTML

Advertised Salary

Minimum $45,000; Commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and / or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.
